Would you message their mum??

My OH and I have only been together for a few months but we both have children. Mine are older (secondary school) and his are pre-school and primary school age. My OH's children have been asking -pestering- their dad to let him meet me - but he cant because their mum wont let them. I've been thinking about messaging their mum just a short note to say something along the lines of 'Hi, its Gins, Just thought I would send you a quick note to ask if it would be okay for me to take XX & XX on a milkshake date? Heres my number if you ever want to get in touch with OH whilst OH is with me and you cant get through' Or shall I just leave OH to sort??
