To think I have a curse on me?

Every year for as long as I can remember at this time of year something ‘big’ has gone wrong - lots of time the car (handbrake, exhaust, brakes leaking), washing machine broken etc etc
This year I have a newer car so was thinking finally this year I’ll be free from car drama taking all my Christmas spending money.
TV has just broken!!! FFS!!!

Disclaimer: I know a TV isn’t a necessity - we can survive without one but as a family of film fans, gamers and Netflix addicts it’s going to hit us hard!!!! We don’t go out drinking or to the cinema Or out to eat so TV is our ‘entertainment’ along with board games.

Me too. I scraped a car near work. Boiler has just gone wrong. Need a lot of expensive dental work after being told I had good strong teeth at every dental appointment until now. Life insurance premium has shot up since I was diagnosed with bi polar 2. Massive service charge hike on our flat.

Am sure there's more. This is all since September. We booked a short break over Christmas earlier in the year before all this and now we have to spend more money going on the trip as we'll lose it all if we cancel.

Next year is going to have to be a seriously frugal year. That's if more things don't go wrong and cost us £££££.

If it's any consolation I'm the same. I dread the MOT every year. Last year my fridge and dishwasher packed in, a few weeks ago my washing machine packed in. We replaced the fridge and washing machine but the dishwashing is now done by hand as it's not a necessity I think it is actually but apparently it's not. And this week DH accidentally knocked the NDN's car wing mirror with our car, breaking NDN's mirror. Oh and two weeks ago DH locked himself out, had to break into the house and then fix the door lock.

It's definitely that chain letter thing.

I have had my fridge freezer and washing machine break within weeks of each other. We lost everything in the freezer as well.

Cooker looks like it's on its last legs as well. Sigh

@dippydeedoo I convince myself every week that we’ve won the internet, I spend it in my head and search Rightmove for the house I am going to buy - hasn’t happened yet and I wish for that a lot harder than broken TVs and tumble driers that have to be turned on with a kebab stick!!

Totally get you OP. Car had to be replaced a week ago. Not worth repairing. Today I lost a money making sideline that I did - business closing down. Just waiting for the third thing because make no mistake there will be one. It’s relentless and I feel like I can never just have anything nice or something to look forward to. Christ I’m such a misery 😂😂😂😂

—brisandchilli— you have to keep thinking it and living like it has already happened, in your mind you have to believe it ..... be positive about your kebab stick ingenuity and appreciate the positive friendship you are building with your mechanic.

Personally I’m finding it difficult to appreciate dhs commitment to building a solid relationship with his mechanic - however I did get a free key ring with said mechanics name and phone number on in cas Dhs manifesting is teaching people other than himself.

I agree with pp that all these things are pretty normal and trivial. I've had a very difficult year with really terrible mental and physical health challenges. A broken tv wouldn't have even made my top 10. I realise it's all relative but I can't get fashed about your perceived "curse" just sounds like normal life to me.

I cancelled all our insurance for appliances as we were paying a lot of money for pretty crap service. The day after the telly broke! My husband came home to find me rocking. However the tv repair man mended it for £60.

@MuchBetterNow I’m sorry you’ve had a bad year but I do feel slightly judged - you know absolutely nothing about my life which has included horrific abuse, rescuing a baby and toddler from a house fire when I was 4 because we were left home alone, foster care, adoption, physical and mental abuse by adoptive mother, eating disorders, mental issues, a child with partial hearing loss and another with ASD, so I am fully aware that there are worse things in life than things breaking down, however this thread wasn’t about that it but yes maybe that’s all part of my ‘curse’ I was jokingly referring to.

Feels a bit trivial after everything you’ve just listed OP, but I was just coming on here to say that Tesco have got some surprisingly good deals on tvs at the moment, so you might be able to get a replacement without breaking the bank.

I’ll have a look at Tesco’s, is that in store? Taking DD to get a new coat later (she’s ‘lost’ hers!!) so will pop in to the big Tesco’s and have a look.

Just wish on mumsnet you could post and moan about something trivial and have other people moan about similar with out it being turned into ‘other people have it much worse’ debate!

Like OP, I've had far far far worse problems to deal with than the ones I've mentioned here, such as childhood abuse, depression, physical health issues, relationship problems.

Most people have large, medium and small problems to deal with in life. Just because the smaller problems are mentioned here don't just assume there aren't also bigger problems.

I get you too worse things happen but sometimes it’s the small things that add up and push you over the edge as you can mentally deal with the other ones. Our front door lock went the other day it had been working fine I envisaged an expensive locksmith but a YouTube video and £11 later my DH sorted it! Sending lots of positivity vibes to you and hope you have a great Christmas
