Is anyone here a SAHM and don't use social media? I really want to quit it, for many reasons, but feel I'm just going to isolate myself even more?

I got rid on FB neally 3 years ago I don't miss it at all never have not even at the beginning. I stay in touch with who I want too. You don't need SM. The only thing I use is MN and that's it.

Weird aside but.... Sadly more and more schools and children’s hobby groups now use SM to communicate general info. When the children are of this age you might find you miss info due to this. However one option is to have an account under a name variation and purely follow the pages you need to with no others.

I think I'd miss out a lot. For better or for worse most of my social events and catch ups are via Facebook group chat or WhatsApp. I don't want to be that person someone has to remember to phone when there is an update on the group chat.

Just posted on another thread about SM! I deleted mine last year and I actually feel more connected to people. I think SM is a very lazy communication tool that makes us feel connected but actually causes more disconnection IYKWIM. Nowadays I’m just in touch with people I actually want to be in touch with through WhatsApp, (I know it’s SM but you have to make an effort to contact people properly through it), text, email and gasp... phone calls. It’s lovely; if people want me they know where to find me!

I think it depends how young your children are and personal circs... when I had my youngest we had not long moved to the area so I didn't know anyone, DH at work, son at school and just me and the baby. At times I wanted to fuck it off completely either because the (mostly) women would turn on each other at the drop of a hat or my actual friends used to post the usual fake book "look at our wonderful lives" bollox and I started resenting the life I'd lost prior to moving and DC2.
If I had cut myself off at that time, I think I would have gone completely into loner mode and become a recluse.

15 months on I've switched off incessant fb friends and only really use it for the marketplace. Plus I'm on here when I need to zone out now and again. It's all about balance.

I 'use' Facebook, I never post anything but I've bought things off a local selling group and now my eldest is in reception I occasionally look on the reception parents page. I use WhatsApp if that counts?

I came of SM 4 years ago, made sure the people who needed my number had it, the amount of nosy fuckers that inbox my DM and DSis asking how I am if I want to meet up whats my number that never bothered with me before is just hilarious, some people cant cope not being able to see into your life through SM....

I did this on mat leave, it worked really well.

Unfortunately most of the baby activities etc in our area are advertised on social media.
