AIBU?

To let hypocritical Facebook mental health lectures upset me?

It seems to be a trend for people who have been insensitive, dismissive, borderline cruel shitbags over the years to post endless Facebook cack about "understanding anxiety" and "always be kind because you don't know what other people are dealing with", and "oooh mental health".

AIBO (am I being oversensitive) or AIJAHBWMHDCANHC (am I just a hateful bastard whose mental health doesn't count and never has counted), or should I just delete and block the lot of them and use Facebook only for my sport and crochet groups?

Yep, delete the lot!

Hope you are ok, OP.

There is no place for cruel shitbags on your friend list OP. Scrape them off immediately. Wipe clean that Facebook Smile

In my view there’s a direct correlation between the number of mental health/understanding/compassion based posts and the level of bitchiness/shittiness of an individual.
The ones who give a shit are actually helpful in real life and aren’t arsed about FB likes.
I’ve felt so so tempted to call people out on social media for this before but it doesn’t help my state of mind so I just ignore or snigger at them.
Hope you’re ok Flowers

Delete, block, and enjoy your time online. There are some great online communities, spend your time with people that matter.

You are all wise and good people. Thank you for your replies.

I've unfollowed everyone except someone who posts about a dog shelter she works at, and some news and groups. Ah, mentally cleansed!

My sister's very unsympathetic/ brusque friend does this apparently. How weird!

Block them! I know people like that, not worth your time worrying about.

I'd always assumed the people doing this were assholes and hypocrites, and mostly doing it to absolve themselves - by posting a meme they have done "their bit" and then they don't actually have to do anything.

But I know a couple of people who have MH issues (and thus post a lot of these), who consistently treat those around them terribly too. To the point that one is borderline abusive, consistently bullies her co-workers, etc. However she's not long past her 5th suicide attempt, and struggles to cope without lashing out at everyone.

Though I'll add that I dont think there's ever an excuse for treating others poorly.

shrugs Not sure what I'm trying to say, really. But perhaps some of the others are like that, too?

Sorry, meant to add - either way it's irrelevant, really.
YANBU at all - block and delete the lot, and dont give it a second thought.
99% of them will be hypocrites and phonies, and the others for whatever reason are too focused on their own problems to see how their behaviour affects others.

Yanbu, the very worst being those who imply that people who don't post on facebook arent being 'open' about stuff implying it makes them better than everyone else.
