Has anyone suffered from pleurisy? If so, how long before you were pain free? I’ve had it for almost 6 weeks now and the pains not getting any better Sad.

I had it 12 yrs ago
Can’t remember exactly how long but it was around 6 weeks in total.
I had a hospital stay with it as they thought I might have lupus.
It was the worst illness I ever had, you have my sympathy.
When I get run down I can still feel where the infection was, it’s like an old scar.

I had it for 5 months but was also diagnosed with asthma shortly after so not sure if that contributed to the length of illness

Thanks, I had a chest infection prior to this for 3 weeks, I also have asthma which doesn’t make it any easier.

I'll be watching replies here for help.

My GP diagnosed pleurisy & chest infection, A & E (after breathing problems & coughing up blood) diagnosed lung infection, bronchitis/possibly asthma.

I'm now 9 weeks in & feel like my ribs are broken. The pain is unbearable.
They've suggested I take ibuprofen but it didn't help at all.
I've been told it can take up to 6 months to recover.

I had pleurisy 15 years ago and I can still feel the scar, like a dull bruise. It throbs if my asthma flares up.

I have it atm due to Lupus. The pain was so bad on friday I was taken into hospital with a suspected clot. I also have costochroditis.
I take steroids during it to help with inflammation, as well as my usual painkiller (naproxen) and tramadol.
Lying on the sore side can bring some relief.
As others have said it can take weeks to recover but dont be afraid to go back to your gp.
Hope you start you feel better soon Flowers

I had pleurisy in July last year, and I still can't yawn (I do this weird painful sucking thing instead). Sneezing is a struggle and I try not to watch anything that makes me laugh. Mine was cause by my acute inflammatory arthritis rampaging through my body and attacking soft tissue. I'm hoping the methotrexate I am taking will eventually stop it.

I had it 6 years ago and I still have pain from time to time. If I sneeze or cough without warning it can be agony. I also feel like I have something stuck under my rib, but apparently it's scar tissue and nerve damage.

Hope you feel better soon OP Flowers

My pain went after about 3 months but took a good 18 months for me to be back to normal. If you haven’t already I would insist on an X-ray just to make sure there isn’t too much fluid build up as this can make it so much worse.

Almost 20 years ago, I remember that pain like it was yesterday. The really painful part about 2 months, total recovery more like 6 months.

Did anyone else have to have it drained? I was really nervous but they were so lovely and were not stingy with the local anaesthetic!
