AIBU?

Think I hurt her feelings

I’m really kicking myself.

I am into amdram and up for a part with auditions coming up soon.

My friend is a professional actor and offered to help me prepare for the audition.

Stupid me had a foot in mouth moment when I blurted out that whilst I appreciated the offer, I felt it would be too confusing to have extra coaching so soon before the auditions. Argh! Argh! Argh! What the fuck is wrong with me and my big bloody mouth? I’m worried I’ve offended her as she’s been quite cool with me since.

What should I do to put things right? I sort of feel like if I bring it up that it makes it into an even bigger deal.

I really don’t see that you have said anything wrong. I am easily offended over things but that in no way would offend me! Try not to worry.

I don't think I'd be particularly offended by what you said. You could always find something to ask her professional opinion about if you're worried she think you might not respect her acting knowledge.

I honestly don’t know why you turned down her offer of help! Why don’t you say as much (were you embarrassed at the thought of acting in front of your friend because she’s a professional?) and ask her if she’d mind helping you?

Yes, that’s exactly it @FullOfJellyBeans

She’s been having a bit of a tough time with work drying up and I’m worried that it came across that I don’t respect or trust her professional opinion.

@Procrastination4 To be fair if I was doing some amdram for a bit of fun I don't think I could be bothered by being coached by a friend. I'd probably prefer not to be coached by a friend anyway.

Yes! This! I was a bit uncomfortable with the idea of being coached by a friend.

Then just tell her that! That’s the truth after all, and it’s more about you than her so it shouldn’t offend her.

Yes, it’s definitely more about me than her. She’s great!
