Went out for lunch today. There was a group of 4 women, 3 toddlers and 2 babies. The kids were fine, but 2 of the mothers were so LOUD. They just shouted loudly across the table all the time. It was like sitting next to a group of very drunk people who talk and laugh very loudly. Except they were totally sober.
And the floor underneath the table and chairs was a total mess of food and kids toys.
There was a table of 9 adults nearby as well who made a quarter of the amount of noise these two adults made.
We were then an hour, they had obviously eaten earlier, and during the whole hour bought one coffee. I suspect if they had not had kids with them, they would have been told to go.

I kind of expect it at a pub late at night. But not in a cafe at mid day.

YANBU about loud adults, that annoys me too, unless someone is hard or hearing like my granny when I have to constantly shout!

YABU re the food and toys under the table. Kids drop food, it happens. How does that even affect you?

As long as they cleared the floor before they left then that's a bit of a non issue but he's obnoxiously loud people are annoying.

I avoided one pub for years after a lunch like that so I am very sympathetic.

Ginger Only relevant in that I think it came from the same attitude of disrespect. It was not a bit of food. It was a disgusting mess with large bits chunks of food on the floor. I actually saw one of the girls crawl under the table and eat some of it off the floor.

Did they clear up before they left? I don't clear up as I go but would clear up before I left.

They were still there when we left. But it was pretty disgusting to see their mess.

The being pointlessly loud would be annoying. However, although the mess isn't brilliant, it isn't the end of the world - the restaurant is probably aware that the children may make mess. Plus, the restaurant almost certainly cleans its floor every day - so children eating off it may be okay.

I had to listen to some adults very loudly performance parenting and then going on (loudly) whilst ordering about being gluten free. But when told the chips were not gluten free telling the waiter 'oh I'm only a little bit intolerant, I'll have those'. The kids were quiet and lovely.

They were for a long time with 3 toddlers and 2 babies. They were remarkably fine.

YANBU I met DD in a coffee shop a couple of weeks ago. We hadn't seen each other for a few weeks and were looking forward to a catch up. We couldn't hear ourselves think because of 4 women at a table nearby who were cackling and making a racket. If I'd seen them in a pub I'd have thought they'd been out all afternoon. Why do people have to be so loud? Angry

Lots of people are loud but women with children who are loud are especially annoying ah. Confused

No that is not the point. The point is that if they did not have children with them, I am sure the manager would have told them to be quieter. But so many places are worried about been seen as unfriendly to families that they will not tackle poor behaviour in a group with children there.
The group of 9 adults there were all about 18/19. I am sure they would have been told to keep it down if they had been anywhere as loud.

Not the best really

And this was based om am actual real incident. There were NO other adults being loud. In fact the only time I can remember adults being as loud as this when eating out, is if there had been a lot of drink involved. That was not the case here.
