Is she BU?

I use biodegradable nappies, wipes and nappy bags. Haven't always done, but over past 12m ish I made the switch. Not so expensive now DC goes through far less nappies per day.

Was talking to a friend yesterday who also uses them, and she said she believes that if you can afford them, you have a sort of moral obligation to use them.

She was pretty high handed / vocal! Basically that it's our environmental responsibility to use the least damaging products we can.

If that's what it costs to do so, then that's what it costs, is her view.

I'm interested to know what you lot think? is she BU?

I think it's great when people make environmentally friendly choices, and we should do so when we can. However I wouldn't go as far as to say that it's an obligation... I would like people to do it because it benefits everyone, but I would also like people to have their own free will. I don't want to live in a world where decisions as small as which baby wipes you buy are controlled by the government, or whoever else.

It would be great if the government pushed business to be more environmentally friendly, but they are doing that gradually anyway. Or so they say

I would point out that cloth nappies and wipes are even better for the environment and although are a large outlay at the start they work out even cheaper as can be used for more than one child.

I would then ask why she hasn't made the switch to cloth.

Morally, I think you should buy free range eggs etc, if you can afford them.

Then I think you should make the changes you can, even if it causes you a bit more work eg washing out tins, not using wipes for cleaning etc.

It's the definition of 'being able to afford them' that's difficult.

It's a bit patronising to imply that it's ok to pollute the planet if you are on a tight budget, surely?
