My five week old, who has to date not slept more than three hours in a row at night (usually it’s two, apart from once when she did four and a half hours) is currently still asleep SEVEN AND A HALF
HOURS LATER....

Nothing changed routine wise!! I’m up just waiting for her to get up!! Is she ok?!

Is she in the room with you?

It's difficult to say if she is ok from the information given. Babies do not usually dramatically change their sleep habits in the way you are describing. I would gently wake her and offer a feed. If she feeds well she is probably ok. If she is sleeping a lot and not interested in feeding get medical advice.

I’d wake her ! I am sure she is fine but I’d wake her anyway Smile

I'd gently wake her. As PP advised, if she'll feed she's probably find and it was just a sleepy night, if not I'd ring 111.

Yes she’s here next to me. She’s been making noises for an hour as if she’s about to wake but then doesn’t. My boobs about to explode lol

It’s likely a one off - I know the line is to wake them to feed but I wouldn’t. I wouldn’t leave the room, just lay down next to them.

What's her temperature like? I'd wake her for a feed and be alert to making sure she isn't ill. They're all different, but my baby's sleep gradually lengthened, nothing dramatic.

Mine is 6 weeks old, usually does 2-3 hour stretches but twice has done 8 hours (about 3 weeks apart). He was fine, just sleepy. I asked the HV and she said no need to wake him.

It's a bit long to go without a feed just feed her.

I'd never wake a sleepy baby. I might pump a bit though.

I would see if she wants a feed. If you can't wake her easily it's a concern.

Soubriquet · 20/02/2019 07:27

Try dream feeding her?

Lift her gently and see if she latches on and suckles

I wouldn’t wake her if you can help it.

Never wake a sleeping baby.

She probably needs all the rest she can get as it sounds like she may be about to have a growth spurt

I would check she doesn't have a temp and is breathing normally but it does happen. She might be about to get a cold, she might be about to start sleeping better or going through a developmental shift. So much changes for newborns.

My son did this. Went from sleeping four hours at a time to 13, it was agony on the breasts!! He never went back and still sleeps 13 or so at five so.. Guess he is just a sleepy boy. One time at 13 months he actually slept 18 hours in a row O.o

I would never wake a baby. Hand express a little to make yourself more comfortable :)

She woke after eight hours just as I was about to try feeding her. She seems fine and is now feeding away....

That’s the most sleep I’ve had in months Grin

" My boobs about to explode lol"

Feed the baby and get some blessed relief ! Hope you enjoyed your sleep. I would wake a 5 week old after 7hours sleep or earlier if I was engorged.

Just enjoy it. DS has done this from 4 weeks and the HV said if he's hungry he'll wake.
Unless your baby was early or low birth weight and you've been told to feed to a schedule, then there's no need to wake a sleeping baby.

You know you've cursed it now though don't you - those 3 to 4.5 hour sleeps are now going down to 90 minute power naps for the next couple of weeks!

Unfortunately one 8 hour sleep doesn't mean baby is now set to a new sleep pattern, though it will get better eventually I promise!

Ahhh, newborn sleepy snuggly cuddles...

My DD2 slept from 7pm-2am from two days old! Like u I worried and panicked and all the midwives and HV said I needed to wake her for a feed but she wouldn’t wake. I tried everything! It was just her sleep pattern. From 7 weeks old she did 7pm-4am and then didn’t want feeding until 9am. Was just her pattern but she did feed very frequently through out the day to make up for it! Every 2hrs!! X

My DS did this once at about the same age. Didn't happen again until he was 12 months+ Grin
DD never did it until about 18mo.

It's such a relief to get a good chunk of sleep though!

@Babysleeeeeeep I knooow! You'll be reassured to hear that my younger DC made up for this by being a No Sleep Soldier and is still absolute MURDER on my sleep at 2.5. Karma is a bitch.
