Has this fad finally passed? I was looking at the chocolate bars in the supermarket yesterday and there were very few salty ones.. I love salt, on savoury things!

I hope so.

I hope so. I don’t like salted caramel, which has eliminated about 50% of all deserts for the last couple of years.

I'm not a fan, hate thinking something would be lovely to eat if they hadn't added salt.

I'm still bitter after the only yule log I could get last Christmas was a salted caramel one. It wa fine, I didn't hate it but it was not quite right. And £15!

Salted caramel Baileys. An abomination if ever there was one!

Stealth - I find that hard to believe. Plenty of chocolate ones in Tesco/Asda etc

Prosecco crisps is just wrong

StealthPolarBear · 18/08/2018 09:58

Oh no :(
I think it was prosecco and wild berries. Really really grim

Salted caramel is not something I would select, some people must enjoy it for business to keep it going.

I wish I could find a decent salty butter.
The amount of salt in brands like Anchor has been reduced, and don't taste like they used to.

Anyone know where I can buy shirgar butter in England? Specifically North Wilts.

I blame the Jamie Oliver types of this world. They think they know better and police others. He soaks everything in oil and ruined our food with chemical sweeteners. Who is responsible for reducing salt in butter and adding it to sweet food?

Herat Ocado have Shirgar, but I've only seen Welsh butter in bricks and mortar shops in Wales, not England.
Salted caramel is here to stay, I think, it's a novelty flavour that has become a classic.
For the next alcohol craze, I predict rum.

I quite like salt caramel ice cream. The thing I loathe is messing about with cheese, for me cheddar is cheddar, wensleydale is wensleydale etc, not adulterated with cranberries, apricots etc. At Christmas there was cheddar with Christmas pudding fruits, yuk yuk yuk!

@Heratnumber7

I've never found it anywhere outside Wales I'm afraid.

Stealth, Yule logs are very easy to make yourself, you just need a Swiss roll tin. I always make my own as the kids like it with chestnut purée filling and iced with Nutella, as the flavour is better.
Just add a tbsp of dark cocoa powder to the mix in place of one tbsp of flour, to get a brown instead of white roll.

I'm not sure it has, I saw an advert for salted caramel mince pies the other day!

I'm starting to see an awful lot of flavoured vodkas at the moment so I'm hoping that doesn't mean it'll be 'vodka events' aplenty. I had three invitations to gin tasting events this summer, where you were expected to fork out £15 for a thimble of shit gin and an even shitter 'gin glass'.

I like salted caramel when it's done well, but it very rarely is. Am very, very over it.

Weeds rum is already happening, which is annoying because I've been drinking Havana Club 7 for years but now 'people' will think I'm just following the herd.

This thread has given me a hankering for those artisan du chocolat balls that first introduced me to salted caramel. So glorious. I know it's everywhere now and it must be annoying for people who don't like it, but it's still like angel food to me.

Shirgar is available on Ocado. I like unsalted butter but salted on crumpets. Might try it.

Salted caramel has been a thing for years! They are traditional sweets in Brittany. The flavour has just become another bandwagon to be ruined

Elderflower? What's wrong with elderflower? It's as old as the hills been drinking that since I was a kid Confused

Surely people who like him have always liked gin and will continue to do so? Or are there people who 'like' what's in fashion? I can see it for salted caramel chocolate if you like chocolate or prosecco iv you like sparkling wine but when it comes to spirits don't people have specific likes and dislikes? I can't bear gin, and will find it rank no matter how much crap is added. I like vodka and so will happily try flavoured vodkas etc.
I suspect the next craze will be sherry. Or whiskey.
