Sorry for AIBU posting but for traffic - am going on holiday in 1 hour, haven't packed Blush but more importantly haven't yet downloaded Audio book for the journey.

I have lots of fiction already but need an interesting audiobook about some aspect / period / person in history to keep the old tickers going.

Any thing, any period at all!!

Thanks

Download Podbean. It had podcasts on every subject. I'm finding it really interesting.

Download a free podcast app, subscribe to a free history podcast and download loads of episodes.

Here's a few suggestions:
A history of the world in 100 objects
Dan Carlin's hardcore history
Dan Snow's history hit
Great Lives
Hidden histories: the New Statesman history podcast
History Extra
History on Fire
In our Time (all sorts of subjects including a lot of history)
Revisionist History
Revolutions
Ridiculous History
Shakespeare's restless world
Stuff you missed in history class
Stuff you should know (variety of subjects including some historical)
The Assassination
The British history podcast
The Civilisations podcast
The Fall of Rome podcast
The history chicks
The History of England
Tides of history

Oops! That ended up being more than a few. I hadn't realised just how many history podcasts I subscribe to.

I was going to recommend the hardcore history podcast - Dan Carlin is really good to listen to. Behind the bastards is really interesting too, although is far more recent.

Oh you gorgeous people, I think I might possibly love you! I've downloaded Ghosts of the Tsunami, subscribed to History Chicks and downloaded all the episodes about The Crown.

Oh my days... there is so much on this thread I want to listen to I don't think I actually need to go on holiday after all, just veg out on sofa with headphones on. A bit like DS really.

thanks Flowers

Some great recommendations here! The History of Rome podcast is brilliant - takes a while to get into the swing of things because the early history is quite mythical/sources are limited but once past that it's fantastic.

Where is the series that accompanies the Crown - is it audible or a podcast? And is it just called The Crown? Thanks!

I've enjoyed the Mary Beard SPQR, and theres a few historical things on the free audio shows. Not history, but the genius dialogues one was absolutely fascinating

@liviadrusilla I'm not sure if this was the one referred to upthread but I've downloaded the Crown episodes from the HistoryChicks podcast.

Okay, it's not an audiobook, however can I recommend this purely because the author was one of my teachers. Grin
