AIBU?

Smartphone addiction

I think my DH is addicted to his phone. He is on it all the time. Not making calls or messaging people but just mindlessly scrolling through fb, bbc news, playing games etc.
I go to sleep with him on the phone. I wake up, he is on his phone. We are watching tv (something he has chosen) he is on his phone. At the dinner table and the worst, when he is supposed to be playing with the DCs.
I have confronted him about this several times and he says IABU because I also use my phone. This is true, I am on it right now! But I am not on in nearly as much as he is. I could easily leave it at home or upstairs.
He gets really cross when I suggest he has a problem.
AIBU to say this is an issue?

I'm with you OP - I think it is an issue, and I say this as the person in my relationship who has the addiction. I'll notice that I'm constantly mindlessly flicking between apps even when there's nothing on them that I'm actually interested in.

I've also noticed that I'm so much happier when I make a conscious effort not to have my phone on me and actually engage in whatever else I'm doing.

Could you suggest that at first just for a couple of hours a night you both put phones somewhere else and have a break from them? See if he will agree to that first and work from there.

Thank you for your response. I have tried suggesting that. I asked if we could do no phones for one night a week and he said I was making an issue out of nothing. I will ask again. He just makes me feel like I'm nagging him.

Surely basic manners e.g. NO PHONE have to apply at the dinner table at least? This 'phone thing' is a real worry now days. If adults can't regulate their own phone use how are teens supposed to be able too? I'm as guilty as your DH unfortunately, although not at the dinner table Blush phones are addictive plain and simple. Unless he can identify it himself I don't know what you can do. I'm trying to put strategies in place e.g. No phone between certain times. There has to be apps that can help as well?
