AIBU?

To just really hate periods?

That's it really. They're shit. Two days of every month in pain to the point of puking. Bloating and / or diarrhoea. Irritable bitch. Distracted at work. Guilt about the environmental impact of pads (couldn't deal with mooncup, too painful). Painkillers either hopeless (paracetamol) or not usable (can't have ibuprofen due to ulcers, mefebamic acid gives me the runs).

Currently TTC so birth control not an option. I know pregnancy is no picnic but praying it comes soon so I get some respite! In the meantime I'm just going to scream FUCK PERIODS!!!!

Agreed.

I get a migraine on my first day. Proper agony and nothing will touch it. I just have to lie down, whimper pathetically and ride it out.

You have my sympathy!

I hate it due to the daily "clean ups" TMI, however I'm very lucky & grateful mine are same time every month & relatively easy. Although I know can change at any moment!

It’s the pms that’s the killer for me.
Life changingly bad

This is not medical advise please dont take it as such. But i have severe pcos and endometriosis and have been hospitalised because of period pain. I've been using tumeric (bio curcumin) for the last couple of years and while i still get some pain i can function. Check with a gp/naturopath/your own research whatever but it's worth looking into ladies!

Totally agree. Nothing good about them.

My pregnancy was the best 9 months of my life without periods. And didn't they come back dead on 6 weeks after!
For some women the pain gets better after having a baby .
Labour was a doddle- imo not as painful as some periods I've had

YANBU. I had a fairly early menopause at 43 and love not having periods. My friend is still going strong at age 57 🤤.DD only started last year and I feel so sorry for her having the next 30 plus years of it.

Mine are fairly ok (and have gotten better since having DS) but I watch a lot of sci-fi and I often think it would be really really annoying to have your period during the apocalypse/running from aliens/in a jungle...

YANBU bastarding things.

Made worse by the fact that men, and loads of women, think that it's "not that bad", meaning I feel pathetic if I can't function as well as normal due to the pain, or other side effects.

I don’t get noticeable PMS but I’m currently on my 2nd day of labour-like pains coupled with flooding.

Ibruprofen took 3 hours to kick in today. This is my first month of transexamic acid. Didn’t touch it but mixed with alcohol gave me spectacular squits twice.

One upside of going through the menopause. Alas, there are also downsides.

YANBU - and i say that as someone who gets off very lightly on that score in terms of no PMT, pain, light flow etc.

Flowers, it's shit - but best of luck TTC.

They suck so much. I'm currently sat under a blanket trying to coax my cat into my lap to act as a living water bottle. Everything is just so much effort when I am on!

Agree. I spent my teenage years trying to carry on as normal through horrific period pains during school. I don't know how I managed it, I guess as a young teen I was to embarrassed to tell anyone what was wrong. I eventually discovered ibuprofen that melted in your mouth and it was amazing. Worked like a dream until they stopped working as effectively.

I've had to take time off work for the pain. I've also been sick at work and then carried on working as normal. One time in a previous job I phoned in sick because of it and my (Male) manager told me I need to take some paracetamol and suck it up. As if I hadn't tried that alreadyAngry

I don't get as much pain now but still enough to cause discomfort, not sure if having dc has helped or if it's the fact I'm on the implant. My pms symptoms are horrendous and I still get ovulation pain.

The worst thing about periods, is that other people, sometimes other women, think you are milking it. A little understanding goes a long way I've found.

YANBU. You would have to be a special kind of weird to like them.

You all have my deepest sympathy! Flowers So true as well that loads of people don't take it seriously or assume it's not as bad as we say. I've definitely had to miss work for it and it always feels like a bad reason (even though you actually can't function sometimes!).

They were the bane of my life. I remember the worst one - I was having a hot bath and i looked down to see my belly was pulsating in and out.
I discovered solpadeine soluble in my 30s which really helped.
Now I'm past menopause - no periods and no fear of a surprise one - it's bliss.

Agreed, and you are lucky if it's only 2 days.

Try acupuncture, surprisingly good results and harmless for your baby

YANBU op, I hear you!

My period is in a few days so my hormones are raging and I'm stuck in bed with tonsillitis. My wonderful family are looking after my DD but I can hear her laughing way and now crying my eyes out because I miss her so much. Even tough we are in the same house and she is clearly delighted to be having a 'holiday' with her nana. Confused

Ugh the other women and the 'it cant be that bad reaction '!. Even without pms and excruciating pain that comment makes me want to throw things. DH learnt very quickly how to deal with mine - pretend I'm dying (feels like i am!) Get the heatbag and tablets fast. And do not anger the wild animal currently inhabiting your wife.

I hate them, and mine are awful. They're heavy and painful, I also get diarrhoea and constantly feel faint. I'm sick of constantly changing pads and tampons due to leaking through them both.

To me, periods are an indication of no 'intelligent design' (philosophical point here) as in ....why oh why would a god design periods into half the sentient creation?

Or, creative God must be a man
