AIBU?

To think saying you are irrelevant to someone is very rude

It might well be true but all the same AIBU to think it doesn’t need stating and is hurtful.
Or am I too sensitive?
NB. Was a third party being referred to.

What do you mean? I don't understand the post.

Sorry.
Just to be clear: I was annoyed that someone had not understood my comment on a FB post and my OH said something like- oh she won’t have even thought you were important enough to be worth thinking about.
A bit convoluted I know.

Depends on the context really. If someone is generally saying that you're irrelevant with regards to a certain situation, then I wouldn't necessarily consider that rude.

If someone says that you're general existance is irrelevant to them altogether, then yes I would find that very rude and hurtful

You’re being totally over sensitive.

You dh was trying to make you feel better and you’re taking t very personally.

Just seen your update, I wouldn't consider that rude, he was absolutely right

Unclear info, but it’s something often said to seek to reassure people who are worrying about what others think. Not a dismissal of you.

Unless the person who you thought had misunderstood your comment is a close friend or relative, in which case your OH’s comment was rude.

Well it might be true. If I am posting about say sanitary products and you wade in talking about Egyptian pyramids then yes you are irrelevant to the discussion.
On the flip side, if someone is says 'Oh ciele, is totally irrelevant' as a person then yanbu.

I think the bigger question is do you feel irrelevant, I think if you let this kind of thing bother you then you must subconsciously feel unworthy

YABU and over-sensitive. In context you DH was right - he was trying to make you feel better.

She is a relative. But I was being over sensitive!

YABVU and your DH is right.

I used to have social anxiety. Part of the reason I recovered was that during therapy I found out first hand through multiple experiments that nobody really notices you/thinks about you as they’re off in their own little world (and no, that’s not a negative thing either).

Totally worth starting a thread over. Go have a lie down.

It doesn’t really mean you’re irrelevant. Just not important enough to reflect deeply on what you’re saying.

I think you need tobchill
