AIBU?

Gave me back a broken toy.

Am I wrong to be irritated by this...I lent my sister a ride on toy for her toddler to use. It was one of those nice wooden and leather ladybug ones. I told her that I would like it back after she'd used it for my youngest to use when she got a bit older, and I'd also like to sell it.

Anyway, my Mum gave me back the toy after our my sister had finished with it and said "it's broken". One of the large screws had come out of the bottom, so the handle comes out of the hole. It's basically unusable.

My sister has not mentioned this toy since. No - sorry it was broken. Also I am a bit annoyed that they did not try to fix it. Her DH is a handyman as well! I just think that if it had been the other way around, I would have felt awful and gone out of my way to get it fixed, or at least given the toy back myself and talked about it with her, instead of not ever mentioning it!

I've tried to find a screw in B&Q but none of them are the right size. My DD is going to get a bit big for it soon. But I think it's more my sister's attitude that's irritated me.

I would be annoyed too. She should be paying to repair it, those wooden ride on bugs are not cheap disposable toys.

you should probably not lend her anything else, you know she can't take care of it.

Contact the company, they can tell you what the right screw is.

Is this a one off or has she done anything similar in the past? After never having my things returned or having them returned broken/filthy I just don't lend my sister anything anymore!

You say that your sister hasnt mentioned it since, but neither have you.

I’d use some kind of wood glue to fix it if I’d broken it and it was mine I think, but in your situation I would text sister and say you’ll drop it off for BIL to fix.

This sort of thing ? I'd take it into screwfix for help.

I’d be pissed off as well OP.

To fix a hole that has got too big, squeeze some wood glue or even some poly filler type stuff (I normally do it straight from a tube) and then screw the screw in. It will hold then.

Yanbu. They vvv cute, i uhmed and erred too long over one on face book for £5 and then one at £8 and missed out. Mainly as ive got a scramble bug and didnt want two similar things. Contact the company as im sure they have spare bolt. Otherwise they do come up second hand on facebook. Id be asking your sister to replace it as only a loan. Who returns a broken toy like that!
