AIBU?

AIBU to be in the dark about what's up there? (Light-hearted)

I was just cleaning out a handbag and I found a leaflet about my coil. Apparently, you're supposed to check you can feel the strings every 6months or so!

This got me thinking. I remember when TTC, many women would talk about their cervix, feeling it, changes in it etc. And I just can't get my head around how they are so in tune with their lady bits.

AIBU in thinking that it's like sticking your hand in a blancmange blindfolded? Or do people actually know what's going on up there???

Well, at first it's a bit of a blancmange situation, but then you start cottoning on as to what is going on in there. Make absolutely sure you have disinfected your hands and perhaps keeping a diary for a start could help.

I thought this was going to be about your attic Grin. I've never looked in mine and I'm rather scared of it.

I've never had a rummage around my cervix either - its apparently so high up (after three children!) even the nurse attempting a smear test had difficulty locating it.

Sorry to disappoint Kids Grin

Chocolate I will maybe give it a go. But for how long do you need to rummage before you really know what you're feeling?

you'll know when you touch it op. It's more towards the back of the front wall than straight back if that makes sense. It does change position and feel depending on the time of the month so you may need a few goes if you miss it the first time.

Erm, I'm afraid it's one of those things "you'll know when it happens" 😳 Sorry for not being more helpful...

Ok, I'll get practising! Feeling rather weird about the whole thing.
Do people do this routinely btw?

I found mine when i was ttc.

Best position for it is squatting, best time for it is in the middle of your cycle when it 'comes down' a bit :)

It was described to me like feeling like the end of your nose. Soft, but hard and a bit wobbley. Middle finger up and stroke about. I could only just reach mine and i've got long slim fingers Grin

As Laiste said.

I used barrier contraception (diaphragm, cap) for a few years. The family planning nurse got me to squat down – I think that tilts the pelvis – and then feel for something that felt like the end of my nose. Actually, she first got me to put my finger on the end of my nose, because it's what it feels like rather than what it looks like.

It was like delving into the great unknown, but because the nurse had given me some idea of what I'd be feeling for, it wasn’t that difficult.

But, a TMI warning: If you rummage, and hit the target, don't get worried if you also feel a lump a bit more back towards your spine. That'll be a poo you haven't yet had the pleasure of having. Wink

Ok.

Squat - check
Middle finger - check
Feel for a nose - check

I got this ladies.

For me, a slight strain usually does the trick, while sitting down on the edge of the bath. Mind you, mine is easily accessible.

IMHE, just before period is best, because it's low, hard and the dimple is clearly there. Then you can tell how it's softer after period, no dimple, kind of like pursed lips. Around ovulation gets tricky because it goes up high and again, there is a simple. High, soft and no dimple - time to poas.

Hope that helps.
