School pickup time.
There is a car park within walking distance of the school, on a reasonably busy road. Cars park on one side of the road (opposite car park), making it narrow. People often drive fairly fast along this road. Children often cross here too, in front of the car park entrance (looking into the road for oncoming traffic).

Car park has a clearly marked entrance and exit. This fits in with the traffic flow along the road.

Picking up DD today we crossed the car park entrance. As we started to walk across, a car from the car park started to pull out - at the entrance. I pointed to where the exit was and told them they needed to go that way. Car driver nodded and carried on driving forward. (Remember there is traffic coming along the road that will want to pull into the car park).
I stopped in front of the car. They waved me across. I pointed to the exit and told them again that they were going the wrong way. They nodded again, and tried to pull forward. So I stayed put. In the end, they reversed, and drove out of the correct exit.

WIBU?

Maybe a little, but if I'd have been watching this, I would have been cheering you on.

A bit officious, perhaps.

Mind you, I did similar getting out of a one-way car park on Saturday where I'd had to squeeze through lots of cars parked not in spaces, and finally got to the exit to find someone trying to get in. I had cars behind me (not to mention the aforementioned abandoned car chicane) so simply shrugged at them and waited until they reversed back on to the road.

WHAT DO YOU THINK A NO ENTRY SIGN MEANS?

Sometimes I think drivers should have to retake their theory tests when they renew their licences.

No you weren't OP the driver could have caused an rtc so good for you.
I expect they were cursing though!😊

They were unreasonable exiting and enterance though i think you were pretty risky doing that with your dd in tow. While most drivers will back off like this one did you do get the odd scarey fuck who could have nudged you. We had a driver stabbing close here in broad daylight so personally id have pointed it out and then taken the reg down to email the school instead.

I do think people should be called out as you did, but not that you should risk yourself by blocking an exit. Its not worth it

YWNBU, what a selfish twat that driver was!

Should point out that DD was safely on the pavement. Wouldn't have put her at risk. And it's not school-owned car park, so other than requesting people to 'drive courteously', probably not much they could do.
I'd remember the car though, so if they do it again, I'll just report to school.

She may not be in the road at risk but im sure it would have been very upsetting for her if things had turned nasty towards her mum and sadly some people are like that.

The driver was being twatty and dangerous to other road users. Theres too much bad driving and road rage about though and usually road ragers are bad drivers. I saw someone spit on a childminders car once, when hed been the one driving dangerously.

They were the unreasonable ones and deserve to be called out. However, standing in front of an unknown driver like that is quite dangerous and I wouldn't have done it with a child.

I would've cheered too Grin but it was risky as some people my siblings would've edged the car forward into you or even not seen you and knocked you over

It's not clever because a lot of people think they're super hard (in their cars) and get quite aggressive when you challenge their shit driving.

but I'd have done exactly the same

Good for you for showing him up. Maybe a bit risky though, given what utter twats some people are when they get behind the wheel of a car.

I'd like to think I would have done the same thing OP, but suspect I would have muttered something under my breath and walked away.. 👏
