AIBU?

To wonder what the point of nausea is?

I'm feeling very sorry for myself tonight as I'm properly ill for the first time since about 2015. I've had nausea all day & multiple dashes to the bathroom convinced I'm about to throw up, only for it to come to nothing.

What is the fucking point? And what can I do to make it all better?

Fellow emetophobe here.

The point of it is to warn you that you are about to vomit or that you have ingested something toxic.

But I agree with you that i’d much rather spontaneously vomit and not feel any nausea, than have all the build up.

If it has a point, it's to stop us making the same mistake twice. It can be pretty effective, most people I know who dont drink Pernod have some bad memories of the day after a binge.

Get well soon Flowers

Upstart you are correct. It was Pernod and black in 1994.

NEVER AGAIN

Hope you feel better soon, OP

Poor you, nausea is really horrible. The best thing to do is go to sleep or lay down watching tv. Hopefully you’ll drift off and feel better when you wake. Flowers

Cannabis is the best cure for nausea.

Fingers down the throat, chuck it all up. Only way to get relief.

I've had vomiting followed by awful nausea for a week. About 20 mins after I eat anything except ginger nuts or pistachios I start feeling horribly sick - vomiting has stopped, just wicked nausea now.

Its a signal from your liver a lot of the time.

Oh it's the worst, whenever I get it, very rarely thank goodness, after so long I get fed up waiting to throw up so stick my fingers down my throat.

If you have a lime or lemon scratch it and sniff and that might help a bit.

I'm not particularly worried about being sick, j just don't ever seem to do it. DS is the same -
even as a baby he never threw up.

I think I would feel better if I hurled. I'm getting bored of running back & forth to the bathroom!

Yay! Finally threw up and I feel a lot better now.

I can cope with the rest of the flu, just not nausea.

I once had to wash my bedding as a teenager having vommed all over it with pernod and black

The hot aniseed smell when I opened the washer door will stay with me forever

Have not touched aniseed since Sad

Glad you’re feeling better OP

As an aside, I don't understand Pernod. I've never managed to get over the horrible smell of it for long enough to actually get close enough to drink it. Nobody else i know can stand it either.
But there must be enough people out there who do like aniseed to make it a viable product.
