To think we might not get the money back??

Where DH works, one of thier number has been made an example of and has been suspended without pay. Apparently for taking a shortcut on someting, which was normal practice, but since management have started dotting 'I's' and crossing 'T's' they found it unacceptable.

Acorrding to DH the Union says they will appeal and the colleague will win and get repaid any monies owing to him (all in about 2 weeks)

In the meantime all the employees have decide to contribute £5 a week to this bloke until he gets paid and can repay them

I am a bit divided here. Part of me thinks this is a nice thing to do - from a bunch of blokes such as they are.

But part of me also thinks that it is not down to us to support this man. £5 is'nt a huge sum I know. And DH thinks this will only go on a couple of weeks, but my knowledge of unions and appeals I think it will be a lot longer, and how long will everyone go on supporting with £5 a week?

I know some other DW of DH's colleagues and they will not be impressed by this either.

DH knows it is a bit of an imposition, but does not want to be the only oe not doing it, also he has said if it was him in the situation he would like to think people would do the same for him.

I will not have a problem if it only goes on for the said couple of weeks, however, any longer and I might start feeling otherwise - is this unreasonable?

If it's only 2 weeks then it'll only be £10 won't it? or have I got that wrong? If it was an ongoing thing then I think everyone would have to review it after a while as everyone else clearly can't support this chap forever.

Um a little unreasonable imo. It depends on how much a fiver means to your budget. Is £5 a lot for you? If not I wouldn't stress, I am sure that dp wastes more than a fiver a week on crap so if he wanted to spend a fiver on this it wouldn't bother me. However if it was the difference between a couple of items on the shopping list I wouldn't be keen.

Yeah, it's only £10 for two weeks, which I am fine with.

But it's the "what if's" that bother me such as:

How long they keep it up?
Has explained to this chap they would like to be repaid?
What if the union get it wrong and he's not reinstated?

£5 for a couple of weeks wont bother me, but we budget monthly and £20 a month will make a difference I am currently on Mat Leave so things are quite tight. If I was working I would not have too much of an issue at all.

I wouldn't be expecting this money back at all I have to say. Iiwy I would agree to do it for a month and then pull out of the scheme, dh's workmates will understand if you are on mat leave.

if your dh has been suspended and you were on mat leave then im sure you wouldnt be turning this money down from his colleagues. £5 is realtivly little in the grand schene of things, but may mean the other family can afford to EAT.

I think your worries are completely understandable,but I also think it's great when people stand up for other people.
Also, if you decide to opt out of this decision it could be awkward should you ever need any help.

totally agree - what would you do if it was your husband suspended? i wouldnt think twice about giving it - especially as everyone realises hes being made an example of.

I would n't expect to get it back , so if so it would be a bonus. If he has bent the rules , whether tacitly accepted practice or not, he could be disciplined.
