He has blatantly carried out something that was unnecessary but will de-stabilise the Middle East.

What was there to gain from this except more misery for the Palestinians.

honeysucklejasmine Wed 06-Dec-17 19:07:18

I dunno, will be good for weapons manufacturers too. sad

OhYouBadBadKitten Wed 06-Dec-17 19:14:31

It’s absolutely beyond incredibly awful. An Israeli spokesperson just said on the news that meant that illegal settlements would no long be legal.

BossyBitch Wed 06-Dec-17 19:17:44

What was there to gain from this except more misery for the Palestinians.

His 'debt' to his backer Adelson being settled and his rabid apocalyptically minded fringe evangelical domestic base being satisfied, actually.

I think the emerging consensus is actually that he's throwing decades of foreign policy under the bus in favour of a short-term domestic advantage.

CommonSenseFailed Wed 06-Dec-17 19:40:21

Why would Israel even consider a 2 state solution now that they have it all?

Julie8008 Wed 06-Dec-17 19:43:13

He did campaign on this, and Americans did vote for him. So dont shoot the messenger.

Adviceplease360 Wed 06-Dec-17 19:45:50

Utterly horrifying. I don't want to think about whats going to happen to those poor Palestinians

OhYouBadBadKitten Wed 06-Dec-17 19:54:00

Shoot the messenger?! he didn’t have to campaign on this.

Regardless of the ethics, why is anyone surprised that America is now supporting one of their allies and the only stable democracy in the Middle East?

CommonSenseFailed Wed 06-Dec-17 20:37:17

The only stable democracy that's built on the back of throwing people out of their own homes. Yes the stable democracy specialises in making palestinian lives an utter misery. That is how it stabilizes itself.

Very true. But this has been America’s stance for the last 40 years. Just not spoken publicly until now

Andrewofgg Wed 06-Dec-17 20:43:45

In itself it's not going to harm the Palestinians but it's such a bloody gesture. He can go on supporting the only democratic State in the region with the US Embassy still in Tel Aviv.

CommonSenseFailed Wed 06-Dec-17 20:45:14

Regardless of the ethics

of course those are the words of a true rabid supporter, void of any moral compass. Anything to further the goal of further land grab and somehow declare it legal with the backing of a powerful bully.

SparklingSnowfall Wed 06-Dec-17 20:47:53

Utterly ridiculous, YANBU

Otterturk Wed 06-Dec-17 22:02:00

Errr common sense - don't make assumptions. I'm not a supporter. I'm making a point.

People do realise that Palestine launches bombs at Israel non-stop? I have little sympathy for Hamas and co.

Entirely separately - what is with that part of the world and bloody flag burning?!

Sausagema Wed 06-Dec-17 22:23:01

It's Mike Pence looming behind him in the pictures, smirking menacingly that really gives me chill. Trump is a dangerous man, but an idiot. Pence however, strikes me as truly evil.

In other news, DT had obviously been topping up his sun bed tan

DiegoMadonna Wed 06-Dec-17 22:27:14

This needs to be seen as another step in the US's march toward making itself irrelevant on the global landscape.

It's only a bloody gesture if we continue actually giving the US any credit and valuing their input. Which we don't, or soon won't, tbh.

McTufty Wed 06-Dec-17 22:28:45

It’s madness. I despise Hamas too but that’s a separate issue. This is just counter productive and makes the possibility of peace ever more remote. It is a provocation to Muslim people the world over, not just the Palestinians (not all of whom are Muslim obviously).

I have long doubted that this Israeli government has any intention of considering a two state solution anyway though.

whatsthecomingoverthehill Wed 06-Dec-17 22:31:45

Distraction. It's working well for him.

TooManyPaws Wed 06-Dec-17 22:31:56

Frankly, if the next door country constantly threw people out of their homes in my country, locked up children in jail for years before throwing them into a military court, took our land, refused to let ambulances through checkpoints, made it anybody's guess whether I'd be allowed to get to work any given day, took half our land illegally and refused to let medical aid and food through to our besieged country, cut off power to hospitals so that children died in their incubators, bombed schools, killed children playing on the beach for fun, etc, I'd be popping bombs at them too. I grew up in the Middle East and there's a hell of a lot of stories that don't make the western media. There's also a large Jewish anti-Israel movement growing in the USA and elsewhere thanks to all that.

Sugarcoma Wed 06-Dec-17 22:32:39

YANBU. Jerusalem has always been the capital of Israel - all Trump did is what dozens of Presidents since Truman promised to do and didn’t, which was recognize it.

I absolutely hate these threads full of bullshit opinions from people who literally know nothing about the region or it’s history.

The Palestinians have never even had a claim to Jerusalem - before 1989 it was split between Israeli and Jordan rule. In 1989 Jordan basically cut ties with the region and left it to its own devices.

A 2 state solution would never have included Jerusalem for the Palestinians. It is the holiest place in Judaism - all Jews pray towards it in synagogues.

Muslims pray to Mecca. Jerusalem isn’t even their second most holiest site.

Read a bloody history book before spouting this typical anti Israel bs.

Sugarcoma Wed 06-Dec-17 22:33:02

Obviously I meant to put YABU but was rage-typing.

McTufty Wed 06-Dec-17 22:38:00

Well it hasn’t always been the capital of Israel as prior to 1948 Israel hadn’t existed for quite some time.

I’m not Jewish or Muslim, but I am well aware of how sacred Jerusalem is to both religions. If you cannot understand why Jerusalem is important to Muslims as well as Jews, then you are either ignorant as to the religious position or bigoted enough to think one religion should take priority over another.

McTufty Wed 06-Dec-17 22:40:02

Incidentally my views would be the same if Trump had (hypothetically obviously) come out and said Jerusalem should be the capital of a Palestinian state. That would be incredibly disrespectful and unfair on Israel, and Jews around the world.

LEMtheoriginal Wed 06-Dec-17 22:40:51

I don't even pretend to understand the situation in Israel but what the actual fuck has it got to do with that cunt anyway?

Why the he'll can't he meet with an unfortunate accident is beyond me
