AIBU?

Pleasantly surprised by gender equality at Butlins

Just got back from a half term break at Butlins and was pleasantly surprised that the Skyline Gang (headline act/Butlins celebs) were made up of 4 women and 3 men (plus a dog who I assume is male).

After watching all the children's TV with female characters outnumbered or being secondary to their male counterparts it was a nice change.

Of course DD's favourite was the pink girl though (sigh).

Why shouldn’t her favourite be the pink girl?

I think there's a lot more women who train in the performing arts than men, so I don't think it's that surprising.

The skyline gang (Minehead) are my daughter’s favourite people ever! She loves Candi and Misty best...I like Dude Blush

Perhaps the dog identifies as female?

Andrew: behave yourself.

Pandora no reason really, she's just a stereotypical girl who likes pink despite my best efforts to avoid gender stereotypes.

I'd prefer it if she liked Misty or Pip best as they are not girly girls. Misty is my favourite because she's cheeky Blush

Whatever people say about gender equality , girls often do like pink and fluffy things (and boys like trains and diggers). Not all I grant you, but lots do.

Which one did you go to, Nquartz? Bognor Regis Dude is chunkier and older than Minehead Dude. Haven’t tried Skegness Dude yet Grin

"Some girls just love pink!"
as do some boys Smile

don't underestimate the social pressure that exists in nurseries and pre-schoolss. There is a thing called bandwagon.

That was to the OP and her statement that she’s tried to remain gender neutral.

Colours don’t have any kind of sex specific signifier other than what society tells us at the time.

“Until the 20th century toddlers of either sex were normally dressed in white, but when colours were used, boys were dressed in pink. At the turn of the 20th century, Dressmaker Magazine wrote: 'The preferred colour to dress young boys in is pink. Blue is reserved for girls as it is considered paler, and the more dainty of the two colours, and pink is thought to be stronger (akin to red).' As late as 1927, Time magazine reported that Princess Astrid of Belgium had been caught out when she gave birth to a girl, because 'The cradle…had been optimistically outfitted in pink, the colour for boys.'”
