DD going off sick again!?

DD was off work for 3 weeks (she’s a teen, pt job) as she had an ankle injury).

She went back for 2 shifts and now is going off again today as she vomited this morning.

She was off a couple of months ago too.

Sigh, she’s never going to keep this job.

Honestly, you sound like my mother.

Shit happens. If she doesn't keep the job, she'll have to find a new one.

Not everyone can be lucky.

People get sick!

It's part of life. So she loses this job. She will find another

How old is she? Who funds her if she’s not working? Assuming neither of these conditions are serious is she that bothered about working? The motivation might not be there if she she gets money from elsewhere.

If she is sick she is sick people with jobs get ill and have time off if she loses her job because of sickness then they are not very good employers and she will get another job.

If, however, it is just an unfortunate coincidence that a stomach bug comes on top of an ankle injury, Yabu. I doubt she is really enjoying feeling ill enough to throw up!

Bloody hell, if they don't want her there because shes been sick she shouldn't want to work for them. People get sick and injured its not her fault don't be so down on her you should be fighting her corner!

I always wonder, in countries and economie where work is scarce, food is scarcer, there is no sick pay or family to cover your back, whether people go on the sick with the regularity that they do in countries like ours.

I am assuming she couldn't work on her ankle wouldn't be safe really and they probably wouldn't want her in if she had vomitted would they ? I think you need to take a deep breath and encourage her to go in her next shift.

Are you absolutely sure about that? It hasn't just mean that she's putting on a face more, and frantically struggling to cope underneath?

You're right to be worried, but as she's adult enough to be employed I don't think there's much you can do about this other than make it clear if she loses it you won't be funding her life other than absolute bare essentials.

Why was she off a couple months back? And does her job have any duties she could do off her ankle?

Sounds a bit like you think she's faking?

What's the job? Did she injury herself actually at work? Is the sickness diwn to poor hygiene at work?

They probably get sick or injured even more often, but either go to work ill (thus injuring themselves further, or making other people sick) or they stay at home to recover, and their families drift further into poverty. Is this really your preferred option for how things should work in the UK, Dunk?

Yes of course people get sick but it's unlikely that she'll keep her job. I understand your concerns OP and whilst I would be sympathetic to any genuine malady this doesn't sound like one. Your daughter will have to learn that there are consequences and that the world of work is demanding. Has she spoken to her employer at least?

Vomiting is often the solution and pre-requisite to feeling better as the body expels whatever it is that's upsetting it. Hopefully it's not as serious a condition as she fears and she will find another job once she 'recovers'.

She cant go into work vomiting. Dh got a nasty sickness bug the first day he had a new job. Had to leave to go home. Not a good start but he was there 2 years and that first few days were the only days off sick. Your dd cant help being sick or having an ankle injury. Letter from gp if you can

People who are frequently off sick are usually a burden on their fellow workers. Back in for two shifts after three weeks absence is not good by anybody's standards. If this is just unfortunate and she usually has good attendance this shouldn't matter too much. How long was the other period of absence a couple of months ago.

Poor girl.

Lucky she has a mother who supports her.

Thats what family should be for I think - help us deal with the lows and bad luck sometimes life throws at us. Of course not everyone has such support.

(Employers are pretty ruthless I find).

Based on my DGM in a country like that, your DH leaves, you're stuck with seven children, you work your arse off until you get sick, keep working, get worse, can't afford medicine, get even worse and die young, leaving your kids alone with the oldest in his late teens. They then have to go house to house begging for the money to bury you, as no one else is going to help them, and are then split up as no one can take them all in.

I'm pretty glad we have the system we have here, actually.

3 weeks is a long time off if her ankle wasn't broken. For a sprain I'd normally expect back within a week but depends on the injury and the job. Often you can modify your job.
Depends if she's making the most of her illnesses.
