Our government is now pressuring the UN to stop using the term 'pregnant women' link. Because, you know, men can get pregnant too Hmm

Why does this matter? What do you think will happen to our hard-won and still inadequate maternity rights if women are no longer protected because only they can get pregnant? Almost all those rights are based on avoiding sex discrimination: only women can get pregnant, so - if your workplace makes life particularly difficult when you're pregnant, it is discriminating against women. If men can get pregnant too, that difference is eliminated. This argument has already been made in a case in the US about the right to breast-feed.

Oh, and it's an Orwellian lie designed to erase women.

You have to pay to access the site you have linked to.

But I wouldn't be surprised by what you are saying, as a poster on another thread was saying recently that the hospital she works at has had complaints about using the term 'women' in relation to the maternity department.

Actually, people do understand the fuss, but reach different conclusions about it.

So, for example, they have read the whole BMA guidance, nit just cherry picked one bit of a summary of it. And know that it is (and only ever was) a guide for admin staff who dealing with people who fall into those categories. So yes, when there is a pregnant person who does not identify as a woman, the terms 'person' and 'people' are the preferred ones.

I don't know if your link is anything to do with the BMA, btw (just remember the inaccuracirpes about the purpose of the BMA document, plus what it actually said, plus the excessive weight given to the summary rather than the text itself by some commentators.

Perhaps you could C&P what the government (Dept of Heath?) has said? Is there a press release? Or minutes of a formal WHO meeting at committee it whatever level?

I'm doing my bit by changing forms, saw one the other day in my doctor's that said "sex assigned at birth" and "sex currently" - crossed out everything apart from "sex" on each and every single form. Did the same when I had to complete a form for a scheme I'm in at work - "what is your preferred gender" or some bollocks, changed it to "what is your sex"

If they start with this crap I might spend an hour or two at my local maternity unit rubbing out discriminatory words like "pregnant people" and correcting them. Every little helps!

Trojan they may not 'identify as a woman' but if they're are pregnant then their sex is female.

Its just taken me 2 minsto find the BMA guidance where it says to use the term "pregnant people"

It even said that the majority of people who have given birth identify as women - IDENTIFY 😂

I read an article about this the other day. Absolute insanity.

As is the fact that biological women are now supposed to use the term 'front hole' instead of vagina, and men who have had gender reassignment surgery are allowed to use the term 'vagina'.

It’s really scary how quickly and thoughtlessly this is being normalised.

Well my hospital is called the Women's Hospital, so good luck with that!!

Trojan- it's a nonsense. Only females can get pregnant and give birth. Only women. If someone wishes to call themselves Matthew, I have no problem with that. But they weren't born in the wrong body if they can become pregnant, were they? They were born female.
They may not like that (and all the trans teens I know are v unhappy with the restrictions placed on women, they're also uncomfortable with realising they fancy women) but they cannot change that, even with surgery.
