I feel absolutely drained. Big black circles under my eyes and like I'm wading through treacle every day. I sleep ok though always wake up several times a night. I've lost interest in my appearance and feel like a big frumpy mess at the moment.

Thyroid? Depression? Anemia?
You should go to the doctors to get checked out.

My ferritin levels are very low, 7, I think. I'm not actually anaemic but the stored iron is extremely low so I have iron tablets. I'm also on anti depressants and while I'm not crying or sad, I'm flat.

Ferritin that low can give you all those symptoms.

You really need to talk to your GP about an infusion to bring your levels up. With iron tablets it could take years.

Get your thyroid checked. That's how I felt. And my defeat in levels were low and I needed antidepressants. Those are classic symptoms.
There is no tired on earth like thyroid tired. It's like being drained both physically and emotionally.

The gp said to go back in three months after a course of iron and have another blood test and further investigations if it's no better.

Feeling flat and emotionless is a symptom of depression. You might need a higher dose?

I feel like you at the moment but my B12 jab is due next week which is why - get it checked if it hasn't been

I think I'll book in again and just say how shocking I've been feeling.

yes do - it's horrible being so shattered

did you have the 5 jabs over 2 weeks? When is your next jab due?

Report
Farontothemaddingcrowd · 15/10/2017 20:11

I had the 5 jabs but it was about six months ago. They've not mentioned getting more.

why was it low?

Mine is caused by malabsorption - so I can't get it naturally - therefore I have a jab every 12 weeks - please go back to your GP and discuss it - pernicious anemia is really awful :(

I'm not sure why it was low. I was low in folates as well and my hb was 9, So I was actually anaemic at that point. That's improved at least.

Go back to your GP - it sounds like you are low again - they should at least be telling you a) why you have it and b) what treatment you need

I have had a recent blood test and was told the b12 was fine. I feel like a zombie though and taking iron makes me sick.
I have restarted anti depressants in the past few months which could be contributing to tiredness.

In my experience anti-depressants make me much more awake - the opposite of what you've described.

I would say vitamin D but it's the wrong season, perhaps try a magnesium supplement if you're having no luck with the GP?

Sound similar to how I am when I've not been taking my thyroxine. (Yes I'm naughty, I'm working on it) I find symptoms very similar to depression. I've also had the low iron too, due to pregnancies.
Worth getting it checked.
