Hi everyone
New mumsnetter and first post - eek! Looking for some advice and from what I've seen you guys are great at giving it! ...
We live in a downstairs flat in a typical maisonette style property in London, with one flat above us. We used to have lovely upstairs neighbours but then a couple of months ago, new tenants moved in. A man and a woman, probably in their thirties, seemed pleasant enough and explained to us that they weren't a couple. I've had a fair few conversations with them both over the fence in the garden and get on with them. All was going fine, until last week when my partner and I noticed a few new faces turning up at their door. Again, fine, could be friends or family etc. Except on Sunday night they woke us up at midnight playing loud music and clearly having a party in the flat above us. This party went on until 7am, so you can imagine the night's sleep we got. My OH (check me out using the mumsnet acronyms! ) said they must have been doing drugs to be partying at a house party until that time.
Anyway....later that day I saw someone turn up at their door. I don't want to stereotype but just to give you a mental image: tall, young man, grey baggy jogging bottoms, black north face jacket, black cap. I watched him, heard the upstairs flat front door open, they both said 'hiya' and then the tracksuit guy walked off and the door closed. I'm thinking 'what the hell just even happened?' I didn't see anything exchange hands because of the angle of the door.
I have also realised that I haven't seen the two who actually live there for a couple of weeks (usually see them in the garden as they smoke). My OH thought maybe they are sub-letting their flat?
ANYWAY (sorry this is so long), I'm writing this now, because it's just gone past midnight again, and we've just heard a load of people turn up!! And they're being noisy, AGAIN! If they're going to be as bad as last time then OH will go round and speak to them. It's a school night!! But I just feel like something dodgy is going on. What should I do, try to resolve it with the couple who live there (wherever they are) or would IBU to go straight to their landlord?
Thank you for reading!! I look forward to hearing your responses!
