Booked what looked like a great hotel online (part of the Brittania chain) to stay in for a freinds wedding, in Coventry, England ) we now live in another country so a lot of travelling)
Despite the lovely photos online this hotel was a pure dump, we asked to change rooms as the first one had a really noisy bathroom fan that screeched, water damaged ceilings and sockets and lamps that did not work.
We were given an equally bad room, water stained walls, cupboard fronts falling off, stained carpet, lamps not working.
We had paid on arrival and we'd so disappointed. We had to pay extra for the pool despite being told on the phone when booking that it was in with the price. Asked st reception to see manager but were told he wasn't in today (day we were leaving)
I took photos and the day we got back emailed the chains head office with the pics.
Heard absolutely nothing from them at all.
Is this bad form or what?

Trip Advisor is your friend. Social Media gets an almost instant response in my experience. Leave them a bad review, hastag them on twitter etc, they will soon come back to you.

Sounds really crappy, hope you get your money back!

I'd have demanded to see the duty manager.. There will always be someone in charge.

All Brittanias are horrible, absolutely horrible, they'll know this and probably don't care Sad

2.5 stars on TripAdvisor if it's the hotel I'm looking at. Never stay somewhere less than a 4.

Brittania hotels are always a dump! They buy big, beautiful hotels and do absolutely zero upkeep. My OH is currently staying in one as its right next to where he's working, the wall lamps are hanging off the wall by the wires.

He knew what he was getting though!

A beautiful hotel I've stayed in for decades became a Brittania hotel. It's now dirty and run down. I've also been totally ignored by them. They simply don't care

Brittania hotels are dire. In future book a £20 travel lodge.

Yes this chain is beyond awful. Had to stay in one for work in a regular basis as our boss set up some sort of deal with them. I used to want a shower as soon as we checked out and once after a particularly vile experience started bringing my own sheets.

In the end about ten of us refused to go to this city unless the boss booked a different hotel and he finally gave in.

Oh and by not using the pool you probably had a lucky escape....

I am a manager in a hotel and I can tell you that there is always a duty manager in a hotel. This role is rotated between managers from departments (like me, im the events manager) or a few dedicated 'duty managers'. Someone is always in charge and ready to deal with guest complaints. They should have dealt with you then and there but sometimes the teams just hope that the complaint will go away if they ignore it. Keep trying to get in touch with someone and mention that you have yet to go to social media and trip advisor but you will be forced to if they do not respond (even then keep on at them)

Thanks will keep trying. Am bloody disappointed. It was recommended to us by the bride who lives locally so thought it would be nice, how wrong was I? I've attached two pics of the light switches and the windowsills it was just grim Sad
