to think that cars should be fitted with the same safety features as HGVs?

Since November 2015, new HGVs have fitted with the following safety devices: automatic emergency brakes, adaptive cruise control (matches speed with vehicle in front and maintains the gaps) lane departure warning, and all round proximity sensors. Since the week began, I've seen 5 rear end shunts, watched countless cars drifting out of lane, tailgating galore and conversely failure to maintain speed on gradients. I love the new kit, it's saved my life twice this year and done wonders for fuel economy.

Yes and no. I can see why these are useful safety features, but worry that the more the car does for the driver, and the less the driver has to do, the less some drivers will concentrate on what they are doing.
