Just took my 4 yr old stepdaughter to soft play - I'm 3 months pregnant and seem to already have the tummy and boobs😄😄
Wondered if it was just me but it was as if practically all the mums of these 3/4 yr olds etc have bumps!! I admit I as soon as my stepdaughter started staying with us in our new house I loved being a 'mum' and wanted a baby but didn't expect it to happen so soon!!Is it the fact that as soon as kids hit nursery school she mums get broody again ?! Just surprised there were so many of us pregnant!! That said I feel comfortable among pregnant women - they tend to understand when you have a huge urge to burp/pee whatever!!

I have a 3 year old. Most of the mums I met after she was born had a second after 2 year gap- that seems more frequent to me! We are waiting until DD is ready to start school to try again, mostly for logistical reasons though.

I guess a lot of parents think about having a second child when their eldest is coming up to 3 or 4 years old as that is when free nursery funding kicks in and they know that by the time they have taken a years mat leave their eldest will be in full time school and they won't have a massive childcare bill !

I think when you're pregnant everyone around you seems to be pregnant too!

Out of my youngest's year group at least 6 mums have had babies in the last year, or are pregnant, in addition to me - but those kids are all in Year 3, so a much bigger gap than I would have thought usual.

Part of me thinks there is some weird super fertility bug going around (2 of my close relatives have also recently had babies) and the rest of me thinks I'm just much more aware because I'm pregnant too!

Me and my neighbour have two children, both children the same age as the others. We both wanted small gaps.

I know loads of people who have a three - four year gap, as they waited until their baby was older enough to be more independent before having another.

I also know a few (but not as many) who have gaps that meant their firat started school before they gave birth so theyd only have one in nursery.

You will notice pregnant women everywhere now op. Just like after my quashqai test drive i see them everywhere!

Congratulations!

I'm self employed. We couldn't have afforded nursery for ds and me on mat leave so if we had been intending a second we would not have ttc till ds was getting his free hours at nursery.
When I was growing up 3-4yrs was the most common age gap not the 2yrs or less I seem to read about on here.

You're going to a place where people with kids tend to go. Those who have kids at soft play age will often be having a second or third baby. It's not really that odd. But congratulations on your pregnancy! It's an exciting time.

But to answer the question:

  1. (The obvious) because you had sex without protection
  2. I'm sure there were probably people there who were not pregnant. You only noticed the pregnant ones because you're pregnant.

I notice all the pregnant people currently because I just miscarried. It is relative to your situation that you are noticing the pregnant people.

Aw thank you :)

I do think you notice so many more pregnant people when you're either pregnant or ttc. I swear I never noticed it so much before.

To be honest I imagine part if it was probably location.

If you are pregnant and feeling a bit rubbish you don't want to go for a bike ride or a long walk to the park. You take your kid to the hell that is soft play to let them burn off some energy while you have a sit down.

DD and DC2 will have a bit more than a 1 year gap (DC2 happened a bit faster than expected/planned...)

When you're pregnant you notice pregnant women everywhere. When you're not pregnant, you don't notice.

Tinfoil

Also when you're wishing you were pregnant. Before I actually got pregnant with DD I felt like pregnant women were everywhere...

I'm with the poster who suggested it's due to financial logistics. Most people want a relatively small age gap but cannot afford two sets of childcare.

Apparently, about 18m after giving birth, you have a massive surge of hormones again.

My bf warned me about this after I had dd and was swearing I'd never do it again(!). I wanted to have my tubes tied but they wouldn't do it then because they wanted to be sure I wasn't 'just hormonal' or something.

I did get a bit broody around the time dd was 18m, but I told myself the need would go away and tried to ignore it. It did go away. Tubes were tied when dd was about 4.

I'm pregnant and due on DD's 2nd Birthday. The thinking being by the time I'm returning to work after maternity she'll be turning 3 and we'll get some free hours. I'm 36 so we went for the smallest age gap that would work for us.

I specifically wanted a 3 year age gap, 1 or 2 years was too soon for me, 4 would be too long for me. Three years they will be close to in age but a three year old will be a bit more independent than a two year old.

I know of 8 people who are pregnant, and due around the same time as me. Defiantly a year for babies!

Jux you could be onto something! My DS is 21 months and I'm massively broody!
