AIBU?

Wibu to mutilate anyone telling me to get sleep?

I'm 31w pregnant. I haven't slept a full night since finding out last year. For the past ten weeks I've had bad restless legs and now even the trusty orgasm isn't working to relieve it (and really who could be bothered procuring one anywAy?) I've tried everything and nothing is working.

If one more person tells me to sleep before baby arrives I'm going to scream, nay, mutilate them. Would I be unreasonable?

It's okay telling people to sleep when they have no reason not too however if like you, it near impossible due to other reasons then no you are not BU....do it!

Oh & make sure you sleep before the baby arrives! WinkGrin

You're really being very touchy about this. I suspect you're tired. Have you considered trying to get some sleep?

That sounds miserable how rubbish for you! I get this whenever my anxiety is high and it is a big part of my insomnia you have my sympathies. Did you have RLS before pregnancy? I'm sure you've been checked out and tried all the non-drug remedies. If you haven't talked it through with doctor then worth checking thyroid and ferritin levels. I think pregnancy can be a cause or risk factor though?

You know I hadn't considered sleeping... it seems so, y'know, old fashioned.

pheonix both iron and thyroid within reference ranges. I do sometimes get it when not pregnant but codeine usually sorts it. It doesn't work anymore :(

Well!

Sleeping is coming back into fashion!

Better do it before it goes out again!

Can you take a magnesium supplement? I found that helpful with RLS when I had a bad bout a couple of years ago.

(Sorry if you've already tried this and it didn't work)

I really feel for you, my sisters just had restless legs and it was horrible to watch let alone how bad it was for her, I couldn't imagine being pregnant on top of that.

I'm assuming the medication you would be able to take is a no go during pregnancy? My sister had reflexology and a massage and it took it away for a little way, just enough to give her a rest, she also said putting pressure on them helped at night, for example her dog slept on her legs. Might be worth a go!

I had it for all pregnancy - it's grim.

My DP massaging my calves before 'sleep' worked a treat though. Keep an eye on your kidneys - my restless legs were worse approaching an infection and was also worse when my iron was low. It's horrid.

Pregnancy insomnia was my first inkling I was pregnant. Then I got a non-sleeper. At 1 yo, people would say, "no proper sleep in a year" and I would scream say, "two, actually".

even if you can't sleep (why else do you think I'm awake at 3am? 35 weeks here), you really must rest and do nice things for yourself while you can Blush I wish I had done this before my first was born.

Second the magnesium for restless legs. And also a B-complex vitamin (although perhaps just a pregnancy multi-vit will do the job, are you taking one?)
And for sleep - have you tried tart cherry juice? It contains melatonin, which is what our pineal gland produces to help us sleep. And if your own melatonin levels are in fact on the low side, then taking melatonin could actually be good for both you and the baby.

Benefits of good levels of melatonin in pg if you're interested. That's not quite what the research is about, but it's the other side of what the research is about, if you see what I mean.

Donald Trump only sleeps four hours a night and it seems to work for him.

Have you considered taking your rage to Twitter? You could be Prime Minister of the UK in no time, you just have to have a complete absence of spelling and grammar, invoke Godwin's law for the most inane reasons and threaten people's jobs on a regular basis. Also use the words 'sad', 'loser', and 'whatever' a fair bit.

Donald Trump, however, is a barely literate arsehole with a God complex. Probably not an ideal comparison for the OP!

So did Thatcher. I'm sensing what happens to people who only sleep four hours a night...
