To buy temporary car insurance?

I can see that it is cheaper to buy insurance for 28 days, obviously. Is it allowed then to just keep buying 28 days of insurance? We have a quote for proper insurance but they all want over a grand upfront and we just can't do that atm. Any other advice gratefully recieved, DP needs to get his car back on the road as he needs it for work. TIA.

With my insurance company, you're only allowed to use the 28 day temp insurance on a particular car once in 12 months, so can't keep renewing it.

Have you tried all the sites that compare different quotes?

Can't you pay monthly for insurance? So instead of a grand in one go, should be around £100 a month as you need to pay interest. If you try a comparison site you can usually choose the option to pay monthly and then the quotes are sorted according to monthly payment.

Useful info here:

You really do need to make sure that the payment always goes though - if there's any sort of bank glitch they stop the insurance and you might not know.

Can't you go into one of the comparison websites and opt for monthly payments, fractionally more but often not much. I've done it when hard up.

The quotes we have found state its an initial payment of over a grand then x amount per month which would be fine if it wasnt for that initial fee!

I work in the insurance sector. I can't see why you wouldn't be able to do this but you wouldn't earn any No Claims Discount from a temporary policy. To get cheaper insurance in the future you really need to suck it up and get some NCD under your belt. Hit the comparison sites and check them every other day or so. Prices vary.
