Have been a loyal customer for years. In recent times we have had frequent sporadic drop-outs and faults which take them an unreasonable time to repair. One DC has ASD so no connection to Netflix etc causes huge issues. Comments on reliable ISPs greatly appreciated

We moved to Virgin from BT and the service is far, far superior so far. Not many outages and much quicker.

I think you get problems with all providers, and it is frustrating when you sit down to watch anything and there is no TV like tonight. That said, I don't think any of the other providers are much better.

I'm in a major UK city and seriously considering the move to Sky

Been with Virgin forever and rarely have an issue. We've had a couple of boxes die on us over the years (usually replaced the next day) but I don't recall ever losing the tv service and if broadband drops out it can usually be fixed by rebooting the router.

We are in NW England, guess we must be in a good area!

My Virgin internet has cut out 3 times in the last 5 hours. Seems to be happening a lot lately. Keep having to switch on/off to sort it.

We've had Virgin broadband and its predecessors for decades - very few issues. Think it depends on your area.

We are having trouble with Virgin TV, though - catch-up often unavailable. It's beginning to annoy me.

Plus net is pretty bad. We've been unable to download anything for at least 2 weeks. They refuse to come out as DP needs to speak to them as the account holder and he's currently away with work. I'm in London.

Yeah recently my internet has been shit slow, part of me believes it's because they have a new super hub out same as my TiVo box has slowed down sometimes taking minutes to change screen which conveniently happened after there new box came out.

Which router/internet boxy thing do you have? We had terrible trouble with the internet dropping out. We got one of the new routers and I've not had to reset it in about 6 months... could be coincidence.

I was very happy with BT at my previous place, from dial-up (remember that?) to being first in my village to get fibre-to-the-box, I saw a man with a BT Openreach van at the box and asked him what he was doing. I ordered BT Infinity the same day, it was very reliable for four years, then I sold up and moved into rented.

I'm moving on Thursday, buying BT Infinity 2 this time. I love truly unlimited downloads, no sneaky traffic management. I have music subscriptions, Medici TV, Berlin Philharmonic Digital Concert Hall, Royal Opera House, a couple of others, and never have to worry about speed or buffering. Freudian slip there, I typed 'buffering' as 'buggering' first time!

I always found when it came time to renew contract (they want us to upgrade to faster) speeds were throttled at the same time twice a day. They claimed that wasn't the case. We've (fingers crossed) not had this problem in a while

The broadband service to the hub/router is usually OK, and if you have a direct cable connection from your devices to the hub the service will be good.
Most problems are due to the WiFi, if the hub is not out in a clear position or you're trying to connect through a couple of walls. There are ways of extending to signal to the whole house.
If you look at the VM help web forum there is lots of help and advice from expert users - much better than you get from the phone support.

Couple of weeks ago our new tivo box went doolally for about an hour. Kept switching itself onto tv guide and scrolling through list then back onto tv. Was bloody annoying.

We're in a city centre in the midlands and our virgin broadband drops out all the time. Worse though is when you buy a film through VM box office. We do this about once a month and every time it'll pop up halfway through that the on demand service is unavailable so we have to wait 10mins - an hour then try again (fastfoward from the feckin start sometimes). I never did find out how The Martian finished as the rental expired before the service came back up. For all I know poor Matt Damon is still growing turd potatoes in space. Sadly we live in a listed building and so are stuck with it but I would never choose virgin if we moved. Bloody awful!

Living in London, had BT, Sky, TalkTalk and Virgin. Virgin are far, far, superior. They have their own equipment, their own engineers and their own cables, which means if you ever have an issue, it will be someone from Virgin who resolves it. All the other providers use BT infrastructure which means they will insist on running 48 hours worth of tests on your crappy internet before believing that it's crappy, just to make sure it's not your fault, and they can't be held responsible, because BT charge an arm and a leg for them to send their engineers to resolve the faults. The number of fights I had with Sky & TalkTalk because they wouldn't believe that my phone line was brand new and in perfect working order...that said, BT customer service is SO bad, and their advisors SO incompetent, that I actually ended up being paid by BT to be their customer for 12 months.

Have had one issue with Virgin in 12 months and it was resolved within 5 minutes of being on the phone to them, they actually took control of my modem remotely and made all the changes themselves

That seems to be an occasional problem with the new TiVo boxes. If it happens again, do a hard reset : unplug it at the mains, wait a few seconds, plug in again and let it restart. That will fix it.
