After several pregnancies am finding that PMT is becoming pretty awful every month. My cycle is also fairly short, which seems to leave a very limited window of me feeling reasonable. Would appreciate any advice please as to what could help.

I suffer with mood swings and I'm pretty sure it's hormone related. I used to take an anti depresent, for depression, and I can't remember the name but I mentioned mood swings to my GP and she said I could take a low dose of it all the time to balance out my mood swings. I didn't but lately I have been considering it.

Oh, it was fluoxetine.

Following as I seem to suffer worse now than I ever did when younger. I'm taking starflower capsules this month, to see if it helps!

Flouxetine gave me insomnia which didn't help..Made me tired and grouchy!

I switched to citalopram..yes my.hormomes still fluctuate but i can handle it better

Thanks, I am reluctant to take AD's at the moment (have in the past but not for this). Just feel I become so unreasonable and have no patience with DH when he genuinely couldn't be a more caring and lovely man. Not sure what starflower is .

Watching with interest as since coming off hormonal contraception I'm a hormonal mess.

Considering going back on it to level out my ridiculous moods (and fatigue. Oh god I'm so tired) but I would really rather not!

Also googling starflower oil...I'm like a different person when I have PMT, I'd give anything a go just to feel sane.
Every month my brain just won't function, I could leave my husband and I'm paranoid and sensitive whereas normally my husband is my best friend and I love him dearly, I'm content and quite resilient.

I just feel pure rage over stupid pointless shit. Definately worsened as i've got older.

Glad that is not just me. It makes me terrified of menopause! I'm early 30's so still a way off, but each month I am blindsided by it. It has been worsening over the last 6 months and I am noticing a pattern.

Tried all sorts over the years, mini pill helped me a lot, but when I couldn't take it any more my doc suggested citalopram every other day for 10/14 days before hand. I still get grouchy and grumpy but no where near as bad and I'm able to control being a completely unreasonable bitch better.
Good luck

After reading a similar thread 2 years ago and crying with recognition, I started taking oil of evening primrose a week before I'm due, and during. It has made a world of difference to me, I used to be filled with such self loathing.

Yep high strength starflower oil capsules are worth a try stick with them a few months , I was getting to the point where I didn't think I could get any worse and in my mind felt I was genuinely going crazy... tried these after seeing them recommended on here feel like I'm back to the old me. From the first month a BIG improvement.

Evening primrose oil 1000mg daily helps me. Starflower oil has the same active ingredients more concentrated, and more expensive. EPO also reduces the amount of cystic acne I get, which is hormonal, so I don't think it's just placebo effect. It doesn't prevent PMS entirely, but it definitely reduces the severity.

Evening primrose most definitely - helped me immensely. I take 1000mg too, get them from Amazon. Just helps to control the mood swings which used to be terrible.

I started getting bad PMT/mood swings after the birth of my eldest and Angus castus pills sorted it right out for me. I only needed to take it for around 3-4 months.

have just had my second dc and have already bought some more in case I get PMT again.

Is hormonal contraception an option for you? The combined pill makes me feel human!

Thanks everyone, this has made me feel quite relieved as it is really affecting life and I am miserable with it. I think I will try evening primrose or starflower to begin with. I think my mum must have been similar when we were getting older and really want to find a way of coping more positively. Will report back.

Agnus castus. Made a difference.

I started peri menopause symptoms at 38, HRT helps me now.

Agnus castus helps me too. It feels good not to want to murder my husband 2 weeks out if every 4

*can't blame PMT for the other 2 weeks

My friend tried all of the supplements and nothing helped much until she started a tiny dose of fluoxetine which literally switched her symptoms off. She a tauped on it for years and may still take it.

Don't discount this as an option if all else fails to alleviate this crap. Also do discuss fully with your GP and ask to be referred to a specialist if they are unsable to help.

This thread is a godsend for me. I've recently started having periods again after 5 years of injection and pregnancy in between.

I had a weekend a few months ago where I was a mess. I was anxious, upset, irrationally angry and basically fucking horrible to everyone and I couldn't figure out why. The next day my period started and it all became clear.

I was the same the following month but at least I knew why. I had to apologise to my husband and DS as I could not control my temper.

I've also considered going back on the pill to control my hormones but I've spent 15 years on contraception and I need a break.

I'm definitely going to try the suggestions above. I did used to take evening primrose regularly but fell out of the routine whilst pregnant. I'm off down to boots asap.

Flowers to us all ladies. For those times when we are suffering and know why, but it's still shit.

I'm so glad I came across this, I seem to have 2 weeks between periods at the moment, I am on for a week and have a week prior to it feeling murderous. It's not nice for anyone and like a pp said, it has made me wonder what the menopause will be like. Has anyone had any success with the hormonal coil?
