To change driving instructors again

Failed my test in Feb after 40hrs of lesson. Totally my fault, 2 stupid errors and six minors. Agreed with instructor to take a few weeks off while he was away then pick up a few refresher lessons before next test... Long story short, for reasons unknown he ghosted me (could see on instagram he was still teaching so not like he was ill/still away).

Made panicked calls and eventually got sorted with a new instructor, excellent pass rate. Largely thought he was pretty nice but couldn't hide how annoyed he got when I did something wrong, which just made me more flustered. Worked out Tuesday I was more nervous about a lesson with him yesterday than my test today. Anyway, was a total nervous wreck before my test and massively messed it up. He'd spent the hour before basically telling me how shit everything I'd learned before had been and he wasn't convinced I'd pass but even if I did, I should still take some extra lessons.
Was clearly quite upset on way home but zero sympathy (he rolled his eyes and tutted when the examiner showed him my sheet) and just banging on and on about thing I should have done.

So, booked a new test and aibu to get a third instructor? Number 2 obviously knew his stuff and drilled in some sound points but suspect he'll entirely destroy any confidence I do have if I persevere with him.

You sound like you need a new instructor. It doesn't matter how technically good he is if he is unsupportive. He needs to be trying to boost your confidence. If he doesn't do that, he wont be helping you to pass. I had at least three instructors before I passed. Don't give up!

Yes, get a new instructor. You need to be comfortable with them or you will find it very difficult to learn successfully.

I had three different instructors! In the end I found a female instructor who was really calm (which was what I needed) and I managed to pass first time.

Good luck Smile

Why don't you get a new instructor who's not a knobhead this time?

Thanks all. I think I know I need to change again, just wasn't sure I wasn't being hyper-sensitive after a tricky day. It's not normal for instructor to keep grabbing wheel and taking over pedals because it's a tricky bit (which I was perfectly capable of doing), is it??

Yes, do change instructor.

Just because they've passed the instructor training doesn't mean they're effective/good teachers.

I have had a couple of instructors and the difference between the two is vast. The difference being with my now good instructor I'm learning quicker because you know making mistakes is part of learning so I don't hesitate unnecessarily and I calm down.

If you're anxious you may be stuck in the 'fight or flight' mindset which is near impossible to drown out as it is designed to dominate. I was.

I know people that have had three or four. It's sensible to choose who to give your hard earned cash to and it is expensive so worth holding out for a good one.

Good luck!
