Dd's school just piss me off, I have the rage . World book dayday today, they never participate, ever, they are useless BUT dd has just come to to say they are allowed to participate and dress up as whatever they like - tomorrow!!! Like wtf??? World book day is today and at 3pm today where in the hell am I supposed to pull a costume from for tomorrow? We are rural so nowhere nearby, nearest town is 20 miles away gobshites

I've no idea why schools think dressing up is the only way to take part?
My ds school don't dress up (thank God as I'm not at all creative), but they do a sponsored readathon for charity, and lots of other reading focussed activities.

Thanks a million for all the suggestions, I'm going to Google as I don't know them all. To make matters worse we have recently moved so a lot of our things are in storage, I have nothing at all crafty and only everyday clothes so I don't even have much to put something together from!

I honestly would have helped dd (11) put something together with notice but to tell us on world book day for the day after is super irritating, I wish they would go back to being useless as they were less annoying that way

There will be hundreds of parents selling off costumes on FB selling pages from today.
Get on there and ask if anyone's selling a WBD costume in your dd's size and you'll get loads of responses I would have thought, pick it up tonight.

Last year my DS went as one of the Secret 7. Shirt, trousers, trainers and a 'SS' badge made from cardboard with a pin stuck on.

That's ridiculous! Is it maybe jsut that the kids have all been asking today and the Head has just said 'Oh, go on then'. What about Pippi Longstocking - pinafore, stripy tights, pigtails, drawn-on freckles. My friend's daughter did this and looked fab.

I don't think it is just the head giving into pressure on the day to be honest, she came home with a note and I don't think the head would be the type to give in to pressure from students. Her school are pretty useless to do anything to be honest but a new teacher joined last year and he is brilliant and wants the kids to have fun so I think the head might be feeling the pressure from him but is too used to being useless so only making a half arsed attempt. I would normally support stuff like this for the kids but its the ridiculous notice that gets to me.

I am loving all of the suggestions, dd is 11 so a little old for some of them, I just offered to pay her not to dress up €2 and she is happy, that's probably shite of me.

Tomorrow is national pyjama day here (Ireland), all creches get involved and raise money for a national Children's charity, they could have just told them to do that, happy kids, happy charity and it would be on the actual day too which would make more sense
