To expect school to tell me ...

... when the school photos are being taken? We've had a letter saying last date for orders was today - first I had heard that photos had even happened and ds1 denied all knowledge of being in a picture! Turns out he was off the day they were done - not that we had been told they were happening that day anyway. Slightly cross - this is the first year we won't have a formal school pic. Humph.

Not sure - don't schools expect all kids to be in every day? If he was off because he was ill he would have missed the photos anyway.

He was off sick but apart from the fact that I would like to know these things have happened so that I'm not in limbo waiting for them to happen, I would have done the usual fussy mummy things like making sure he had the school aertex on and not a plain one, had it ironed (), brought his haircut forward a week - the things that add to the pic.

I wasn't told either but felt very happy when I found out from dd (over tea) that they had had their photos done that day.

I was happy cause it happened to be the day whenshe was wearing completely fresh, clean uniform, hadn't forgotten her glasses and had her hair up.

I don't think it's unreasonable. When we got our new (hopeless at being organised) HT, this happened and I was upset as I would have taken ds2 in to be photographed with his older brother and sister. That's not to mention the state dd's hair was in that day as she'd done it herself, and the fact that I'd have made sure they were in the logo'd uniform etc, etc. I was hopping at the time as were most other parents. HT did apologise and this year we were given plenty of notice!

We are told when the photographer is coming in, we already know the date in June when they will be coming in as it is on the list of important dates we get at the beginning of the year, have to write it in my diary though as we don't always get a reminder closer to the time.

£17 .. that'll be about £16.50 profit

I'd want to know in advance that photos were being done (we were told here) so, as you say, the usual things like hair could be attended to.

I think LOs are expected to communicate too much - I like it all to be in a letter/on a poster on the wall/both.

They should tell you. Some religions forbid photography anyway so parents ought to be told in case they object on those grounds.

It is prereable if they put it on the newsletter and website calendar because people do put hsir up etc.

However, you can go somewhere like snappy snaps or is it supersnaps? with your child in their uniform and get the same style photo, and packages for the same prices. So its not a disaster.

years ago my sons school let them do PE before photographs, he kept his footie shirt on after sport so that is what we got in photo! Was mad at the time now 33 years later we laugh when we see it.
