To not understand tax credits !! Help needed

Long post, but want to get all details in one post. 
Last August I lost my job where I was earning 13000 a year working full time. I was living at home in my mothers house with my 7 year old son. 
When I lost my job, I was going through a bit of a pain with the tax credits people as they had been wrongly stopped (they thought my mother was my partner.... Im also paying back an overpayment that they wrongly paid me in 2012/2013)
So as I was ringing about that claim, I also informed them that I'd lost my job and my claim to tax credits would need to end etc
Come mid October I'd found a new job and didn't re apply for tax credits due to my earlier experiences & complications with it, I was now on 21000 & could support my son & myself without the grief tax credits had caused me so didn't want to be involved with them again.



However now I've just noticed I've been getting some money over the past few months from tax credits. 
So now I'm really confused and I'm Worried I've had an over payment?? 


I thought my I would have to re apply to receive tax credits again? What is this payment ? 


Now also my problem is that I've recently (as in last Wednesday) purchased a property with my sons father & were now going to be living together. 

Our combined wage will be too much to claim anything for (not that we want to) 
And I'm just stressing as to why I'm getting this money and what I'm supposed to do and say now! 


All this stuff has completely confused me over the years and I'm really at the end of my rope with it. 
Why can't I just call them and tell them to stop giving me money (like i thought I did back in August) 
I'm really really confused so if anyone can shed some light on this I would be so thankful!!

I think you really need to call the tax credits helpline and discuss it with them. They are complicated and I'm not sure if anyone here would really be able to say if you have been overpaid or not.

Yes, speak to them. In the meantime, put that money to one side and don't spend it in case you need to pay it back?
