An article about women returning to work after having kids has made me feel immensely inadequate.

According to the Sunday Times Magazine, one woman quit her job when she became a mum. Nothing unusual but then

" She promoted herself to home CEO, volunteered at school, became a magistrate and wrote a short lived blog... "

BECAME A MAGISTRATE???!!!

Just like that?????!!!!!

I find it hard enough juggling my TA job with having dd and a home life.

And i know she didnt just become a magustrate "just like that" and it must have taken some training. She was director of brand and communication at Deloitte before kids.

I do want to get a good job but unlike these women my career was shit before having kids.

Aibu to be in awe and wonder how to be this succesful career wise. Do such returnship schemes include career novices?

I feel you OP. When reading such articles I think of this.

blog.penelopetrunk.com/2016/10/31/feminism-fails-because-women-are-so-full-of-shit-oh-and-go-cubs/

It sucks how some people have worlds of opportunity and the rest of us just get told it's our fault for not trying harder instead of admitting the massive inequalities.

I try to see the funny side of all the bullshit the media throws at us. It really is designed to make us feel inadequate and buy more

Love the article you linked to Mysterycat23! I loathe the "if you work hard enough it will happen for you" rhetoric wheeled out usually by types with wealthy families or husbands. Yeah right.

Anyone can become a magistrate. It's not something ilke becoming a lawyer. It's a voluntary job. Have a go - see www.magistrates-association.org.uk/training-magistrates

I feel like this whenever I read or see anything by Giovanna Fletcher - she seems so happy and full of life and fun.

Her latest book is called "Happy Mummy, Happy Baby".

I wasn't happy when my child was a baby - I wish I had been.

Most people struggle. You are not doing badly at all. Don't pay attention to articles like this (nor social media) for that matter!
To be honest, if this woman felt the need to flaunt her success, as far as I'm concerned she'snot as successful as she may seem. She's either lying or exaggerating or she has poor self esteem if she needs such a boost.

Yanbu. I had to drop out of OU after three modules. It was impossible to juggle with PT work, non - sleeping child, my iffy health and being a LP.
