Can any of you over 40

Don't lose heart, keep at it. I didn't follow any particular plan. I just cut town on my carb intake. Started eating lots of veg and fruit. The weight started to come off, half a pound each week, it was slow but I got there.

Stick with slimming world a bit longer. It's family friendly and slow and steady wins the race.

I'm 43 and since October I've lost 4 stone.
2 in the Blood Sugar Diet for 8 weeks - that was 800 cals and not as difficult as it sounds. Another 2 calorie counting with My Fitness Pal on approx 1100 cals a day. Very easy as can eat what I like as long as I count it.

I'm no fan of SW as I think you can still eat huge portions and I don't necessarily think that's a good thing as eating less shrinks stomach and am less hungry anyway.

Good luck whatever you try... but it's defo possible!

I lost ten stone with Slimming World at the age of 29/30 It came off very quickly (7 stone in 7 months) and i ended up with gallstones.

I regained 4 stone when DH had a heart attack which left him with disabilities.

I went back to SW a few months after my 40th birthday and it took 3 and a half years to lose that regain. At a pound and a half a fortnight or a pound and a half a month.
Its not impossible just a lot slower.

It's harder the older you get but basic physiology still applies Grin Take heart - a big enough calorie dephicit will get the pounds off.

I'm late 40s (with 3 year old) and am on the 'milk diet'. I stared it almost as a sort of grumpy joke, because i like milk and because i can't be arsed to prepare food for me during the day. And to my surprise it is working. I've got into my previously too tight skinnies in 2 weeks.

I started low-carbing at 43, and lost a stone and a half (probably more than I needed to lose).

Are you exercising? Eating natural unprocessed food? Or are you eating mullerlights, hifi bars amd stuffing your face with curly wurly's?

If eating well and moving more keep at it. Slow and steady is the best way to lose weight.

And watch the expose on slimming world feb 14th, ch4 8pm.

Then google rebelfit.Wink

I lost 6 stone last year, at 57. I'm still losing and I'm 58. Keep on going, you'll get there.

I did. Exactly this time last year on my birthday I weighed in at an all time heaviest for me at 12st 5lbs. I have always been v slim and this was heavier then when I was full term on dd 10 yrs ago.

I was v upset on seeing a photo taken at my birthday dinner so I decided to tackle it

I cut back portions - this was the main change. Cut out junk. Cut back on wine. Cut back on carbs at every meal. I gave up nothing & didn't especially increase exercise and did not join any clubs.

Today I am 10st 13lbs. And 47 yrs old. I lost the weight in about 5mths and by being vigilant have kept it off since. I am to get to 10st 7lbs

You CAN do it!

I had a baby at 40 and lost the baby fat 3 years later by stopping breakfast and eating my 5 a day. If you stick to the proper 80g portions it can be surprisingly filling, and if you listen to your body then you won't eat more than you need, so it's a good combination! I got back to 81/2 stone within 3 months.

I didnt eat large portions with SW the second time Cactus. I had to tweak the plan to suit me and eat smaller portions because my metabolism has changed so much. I had several medical professionals tell me that fast weight loss is dangerous.

If you have lost 4 stone since Oct thats a stone a month. The same speed at which i lost it the first time which made me ill. Back in 2002 there wasnt much information online about the fact that fast weight loss can cause gallstones. Now there is loads. The information is there.

Gallstones is excrutiatingly painful and the gall bladder has to be removed.
Which means an operation. Im continually surprised that its a risk many people are prepared to take with the NHS in the state its in and the waiting lists being what they are!

Over 40 exercise is a must in any weight loss regime. Doesn't have to be high intensity - an hours walk here, swimming there, yoga... it all adds up.

I'll be 50 in March. When I turned 40, I weighed 15 stones. I started my weight loss journey when I was 43/44. I now weigh 9 stones 4 lbs. So ..... it can be done.

How did I do it? Weight Watchers is the simple answer. The journey was long. I lost 3 stones in the first year and dropped from a size 20 to a size 14. I carried on going to WW and maintained my weight for around three years. Then I decided to finish the job off. Over the last three years, I've dropped from a size 14 to a size 8.

My issue was portion sizes. Understanding the issue was half the battle. Doing something about it was the other half. Don't get me wrong; it's tough, really tough. There's no magic formula but ...... I feel amazing; absolutely amazing.

Go for it; you won't regret it, I promise Smile

I didnt do the mullerlights hifi bars bollocks either. Those things are packed with sugar. If i keep my sugar intake as low as possible it works.

But i do indulge on special occasions like family birthdays, Easter and Christmas.

Just like ppl used to do.

Alavere.

I have a very low restic/bassl metabolic rate so 'normal' dieting doesnt work.

Protein and salad/veg only. Lost one and a half stone in six weeks and kept it off.

I'm 47 with a young child and have lost so far a stone and a half just making more sensible choices ie eating a breakfast of fruit and yoghurt which stops me snacking and by upping my exercise, nothing too much just making sure I hit the targets on my fitbit is 10,000 steps a day.

I'm very much like wtf. Also 47 and have lost a stone and a half by calorie counting, using myfitnesspal to track my food and exercise.

I also use fitbit and make an effort to walk my 10000 steps each day, though today the weather is atrocious and I'm not feeling well so I've barely managed 1/4 of that!

I and all the Women in my gym, over 45, have done it by following 'clean eating' and lifting weights. Cardio for most of us, is just walking.

Some are on SW/WWs but avoid the processed food suggestions.
