To get my implant removed?

I have had the implant for years, this being my 4th. I have used it for contraception of course, but way more because I had debilitating periods, painful, heavy and long lasting, irregular too.
But this year gradually I have started to have periods even with the implant, they have been lighter but getting more and more like they used to be and this month its been awful. I don't need it right now for contraception as I am not dating or anything.
I am wondering if its stopped working anyway.
Should I just get rid of it?

My SIL had this - she's on her third. She went from never having a period to being on 3 weeks out of four, every month. She's having the implant out and going on the pill instead as the doctor is worried because she's anaemic now.
