I work in a&e ( I am not a nurse or doctor) but I know the pressures they are under ATM.

I have had a pain in my foot since December and the GP wanted me to have an X-ray.

I'm 100% sure it's not fractured as I can walk on it and there is no swelling just pain around the ball joint. To me that suggests ligament.

What would you do.

Can't your GP give you a letter referring you to Xray. I've to get x rays & my doctor has given me a letter so I go straight to Xray & nowhere near A&E

If you work in A&E you should know that your GP would have referred you?

Definitely not an A&E job. You need GP referral for X-ray and probably podiatrist

I have NC as this outs me!

If you have had a pain since December it definitely doesn't warrant an A&E visit as you've coped since then.

But what I will also say is I started with a pain in my foot June 2015. X-ray was clear. Walked round Disneyland Paris and Legoland. After being fobbed off with various antibiotics and anti inflammatories I privately referred to a Physio who wouldn't touch it without an MRI. In November I finally had a fracture confirmed. Too late to do anything. Still get pain in it now.

The irony of it all is I work in an X-ray department!!!

I was 100% sure my 10yo DD hadn't broken her foot too because she was walking on it. So was the first aider and the Locum GP. She'd broken it.

My Sister walked around on her broken foot for 4weeks thinking it was just sprained too until she finally got it x-rayed Shock

Do you have a Minor Injuries unit near you OP? I didnt know until recently that some walk in centres have x-rays too. Give them a call?

Yes got a minor injury unit.

I am on shift tomorrow and will ask. The gp said waiting times for X-rays are long ATM and A&e will be quicker

When I broke my foot I was able to walk on it too. When I tore all the ligaments I couldn't even touch it.

If you work in ED, ask a friendly doctor to send you for an x-ray when you're on shift... That's quite common where I work! Grin

I got told to go to x ray dept any time between 0930 and 1630 and I'd be seen with a referral letter from my GP
