AIBU?

To think that our media should stop being 'impartial' when it come to Trump?

So we've had just one week of Donald Trump's presidency and already he's started to enact some pretty disgusting laws, try to shut down the media, stop funding for women's contraception and abortion support overseas, build the fucking wall, BLATENTLY LIE about numbers attending the inauguration and the BBC, C4 etc are doing their normal impartial reporting, not using the word 'lie' when the administration talk about' alternative facts'.

Theres more outrage and fact checking on places like Twitter and MN than on our own mainstream media right now. To me it feels like appeasement and how.can they be impartial when this new Gvt are spouting bare faced lies...?

I guess because "lie" means intent, not just incorrect or confused but deliberately misleading statement. It's a big deal to accuse a head of country of lying. I don't think the BBC needs to do that. I'm quite happy to let facts speak for themselves.

Thing is Trump's lies have been called out before, very bluntly. His fans don't care.

But it's obvious everyone at the BBC despises Trump, isn't it? Even my DH has noted it. Have you ever watched Newsnight?

I haven't watched it recently so have not seen how he's being discussed. However tbh I'm thinking more of mainstream news radio as Newsnight is quite rarified sadly...

I am confused about the abortion act he reinstated. He stopped money going overseas did he also stop abortion in America?

Minor sidetrack but I'm really annoyed he's had so much airtime about cutting funding to overseas charities which have anything to do with discussing abortions (I think that's correct, but if I'm wrong please correct me).

Every single republican ever does on their first day in the white house. Always. The media don't make a huge deal about it with them do they?? Not such a huge deal anyway.

Trump has done enough evil shit which is entirely unprecedented and entirely his. How about we concentrate on that instead?

Rant over.

That's why I am confused. I didn't think he had stopped abortion and I am amazed at the backlash. He said America first I suppose stopping funding stuff outside America could count for that as well as the fact they all overturn this particular mandate. I can't blame him for the wall I dislike him for the pipeline and I think the 90 day ban was justified while he sorts out security. It really is a case of he will never do anything right in some peoples eyes and thats it.

This thread isn't about what he's actually doing, there's other threads about that, it's about the disparity between what he's actually DOING and how it's being reported in our media - which is what a lot of pp will actually watch. There's a long thread at the moment with lots of links giving info about what he's up to but this isn't being reported and when it is, it's being reported in a very impartial way. BUT THIS ISNT IMPARTIAL, it's the beginning of authoritarian rule in the most powerful country in the world. We are literally watching fascism in action unless we oppose it. And unless we have a vigilant media, this will happen!!

Impartial? BBC News, Channel 4 News blatantly loath the man and it is a credit to them that they are as objective as they can be in the circumstances.

All news outlets have an axe to grind, it's just some try to be more objective than others. I don't think blatant propaganda is the way forward. Report the facts and I will make up my own mind. It's best to read the news from a variety of sources, even the ones you don't agree with. The truth is usually somewhere in between.
