To give gift in broken box?

Bought a toy for a kid's birthday party this Saturday. Was so relived to have it out of the way, busy day ahead tomorrow etc.

Anyway, dh was sorting out the kids with dinner and sleep tonight and when I came downstairs he had opened the box and taken the plastic toy out thinking it was meant for DS. The toy hasn't been used but the original box is broken. Fixable of course, but it would very much look fixed!

The birthday boy will be 3 and is a friend of ds from nursery. The gift cost me a tenner. It isn't the sort of toy I'd get for my own dcs, and I have now just checked the store where I originally bought it and they are now out of stock so I can't easily buy another one. It was the 'perfect gift' for your for birthday boy, exactly what he would have liked I think.

I really don't want to spend more money and more time on finding another present.

Can I fix up the box with some tape, explain what happened to the birthday boy's mum and enjoy the party? I don't know her well, though we have spent a few nursery days out together. I have her number.

I can't do that, can I?

HmmBlush

I wouldn't even mention it! If she does just say rhe box was open in the shop but was the last one and you thought it was perfect for their dc

I have my friends little brother a Star Wars figure in a busted box for Christmas, that's what I said to his mum (not that i accidentally stood on it making my morning coffee) Grin

How infuriating! I agree with Rose by the way...and the Birthday boy won't care about the box.x

Oh thank you thank you! I'm so relieved I won't have to worry about it now! I actually have my own ds's birthday to organise for Sunday, so hands fully full! Smile

It's actually something very similar to your star wars figure rose!

Well you have two options both of which are acceptable to me - you could mend the box and give it as above or take the toy completely out the old box and put it in a nice presentable gift box. As long as the toys isn't broken it will be fine :)
