To want cosmetic surgery abroad

I hate my mum tum, I hate the way it's like a spaniels ear and just looks crap. I've decided I want a tummy tuck and looked into it, it's £10k here and £3k overseas (Poland and Germany) am I insane for thinking of this as an option? Has anyone else gone abroad for nip/tuck

Surely other EU countries reciprocate in this arrangement?

I know it's tempting to go abroad but I wouldn't take the risk in case anything goes wrong. I would have it here, not worth risking your health over imo

The European Health Card entitles you to the same care as local residents would receive, so not free in most cases

You definitely absolutely need health insurance for any trip within Europe and if you're going for cosmetic surgery it will need to be specialist cover

What will happen in the event of an emergency? (eg bad reaction to anaesthetic...I had one despite being under GA more than once prior to problem)

How will you manage if it goes wrong?

What if English is not widely used in the clinic, how can you be confident that you understand and are understood?

How will you get home if you're in a lot more pain than expected?

Who do you expect to deal with complications? (I'm guessing our stretched NHS)

As another poster asked, what about the cost of specific insurance? (yes as current EU citizens we're entitled to the same treatment as locals, but that isn't necessarily great or cost free, plus if there are complications a medical transfer home costs a fortune)

I'm not trying to be a goading cow (what a mental image) or high and mighty but abdominal surgery even when routine is fairly high risk. Adding the wildcard of a foreign country just adds to the potential for anything going against plan being a massive deal instead.of an inconvenience.

These are genuine considerations I'd make and plan for in your position.

Thanks MN I had considered specialist insurance and I'm planning on going somewhere where it's a short flight. It does worry me about the language, I wonder if there are any specialist travel agents that arrange this kind of stuff?
