To apply for a job I've been rejected from before

Last year I applied for a job I really wanted. I got through to the last stage (three interviews) and was then rejected.

I saw it readvertised a week ago and it's been playing on my mind ever since...

Would you apply again?

Did you get feedback? Do you know why you didn't get it last time ?

Lastly check it doesn't say previous applicants need not apply on the advert

Couldnyou have an informal chat with the person who chaired the panel last time also ? That would show how keen you are

Yes, I would apply again. I applied for a job I had been unsuccessful getting the first time ( quite a few years ago) and I got it,
I talked about my last application at the interview and we discussed how I had progressed since then.
Unless it says 'previous applicants need not apply'...then go for it!

The feedback was all good but they went for someone who had been in an identical role before, as opposed to mine which was similar.

I guess the worst they can say is "not her again!"

I think sometimes it can work to your advantage to apply again. My friend who works for a university applied several times, each time asking for feedback and eventually got a job there.

As you got so far last time in the process I would mention it in the letter. Also say that you are still very keen to join their organisation.

Yes, go for it! I did this once. I saw a job re- advertised 6 months after I applied & got interview. I just rung up HR and was given an informal interview and the job offer a day later.

I got my current job because I'd been interviewed for a very similar one a few months before but it went to someone else (who is actually much better for the particularities of that job). They had a new post come up that was exactly in my area and because I'd been determined to be appointable in the previous interview less than 6 months before, they were allowed to just offer me it. It was a lovely phone call to receive (and allowed me to wave goodbye to a 2 hour each way commute and disability discrimination in my old job).

Absolutely go for it. I have interviewed the same people many time - nothing odd about it. People change, develop and hone their skills. And critically the leet is different.

I'd email the contact named in the ad to ask, more as a way of flagging it - I'd definitely apply in your shoes. They liked you the first time according to the feedback, they just liked someone else better. Obviously that didn't work out for them so it's worth giving them a second shot at you!

I once relocated and my previois job went to someone who had applied when I first got the job, my boss said she didn't perform as well as me at the interview but all the skills were there

If you've been interviewed then no you probably shouldn't unless there have been material changes to your CV.

I definitely think you should. You can tailor your answers to reflect the feedback you got before - you may not be in an identical position but this gives you a fresh view yadda yadda yadda

A friend of mine applied for a job six years ago, didn't get it, reapplied just recently and has been awarded the position. They were impressed that he obviously really wanted to work for the organisation and had developed their skills in the meantime.

Go for it-there's nothing to be list.

When there's only one post available, an employer may have to turn down one or more completely appointable candidate and choose only the mostly highly ranked candidate. That doesn't mean that those candidates may not be the best candidate for the next job that comes along.

You were not rejected, the company felt another interviewer suited it better.

Of course you should apply again if you're still interested.

Go for it. Same thing happened to me and I got it second time. They were really helpful in the interviewing process second time too as they sort of knew me from before
