Feel like I've fecked up NYE for everyone

Got bold a few weeks ago and invited friends and neighbours for NYE party. Have prepared bewtiful food and bough fuckton of classy booze. House is clean and tidy and nice decorations ready to hang up.
Anyway I started with tummy cramps yesterday, spent the night praying I'd be able to vom or have diarrhoea, then finally managed to vom my insides out this morning. I've been in bed all day reading and sipping flat coke while dh looks after the children and have obviously cancelled the party. Everyone's been lovely about it, but I feel like I've spoiled it for everyone. New year is a big one right? Now they'll have no plans and a miserable night watching the hootenanny. To top it off it's confirmed my suspicion that we should never attempt to celebrate new year.
The thing is, I'd have been happy to lie here feeling rotten while people partied downstairs but didn't want to pass on the evil virus (I believe strongly in self quarantine). But lovely friend then texted offering a play date to our kids so that I could get some rest. Was gonna say no due to my fear of infecting the neighbourhood (plus ds said yesterday he had tummy ache!!) but she then texted dh directly so he went round with them!
Now I feel like it looks like i cancelled the party for selfish reasons (i.e. Cos I felt a bit crap).
Haven't been sick since this morning and in between keep feeling OK but then have horrendous cramps up my back and stomach Xmas Sad someone tell me to shut up and go back to sleep!

Don't worry about it, it's only new year, there will be another one next year Donald Trump induced nuclear apolcalypse notwithstanding.

The sick bug has been doing the rounds for weeks, ruined a Christmas night out for me but it can't be helped.

Shut up and go back to sleep!

Seriously you've done everyone a favour cancelling and NYE is not that important. After all we all see in the new year, whether we do it with champers in hand or snuggled in PJs really doesn't affect how the year will pan out for you.

Hope you've purged the germs and self quarantined well and your new year doesn't start with nursing your family through a sickness bug.

Now I feel like it looks like i cancelled the party for selfish reasons (i.e. Cos I felt a bit crap).

Feeling like crap is a good enough reason, but your other reason- self quarantine, is the opposite of selfish. Don't worry about it, your friends will either go somewhere else or enjoy a quiet one in, get some rest and feel better.

Maybe you could have a gathering when you feel better if the food and drinks you got in are the sort that keep?

We should have had people round tonight but have also had to cancel as DH is the same as you. No one seems to mine, in fact my dad even said he was thankful in a way as was shattered. New year is just another night, don't let it bother you Flowers

You can't help being ill, and I'm sure that everyone understands.

Get well soon Smile

Freeze as much of the lovely food as poss and tuck the booze away. Invite the same crew around next Saturday or the one after. They'll be delighted, after the January blues have set in and they're all feeling skint. Win-win!

If it was me, I would prefer you to cancel than risk catching what you have. Schools have a 48 hour rule for a reason.

One of our Boxing Day guests went down with Moro afterwards and then her brother too. Can't help it if the illness is after the event.

Honestly, no one really wanted to come. They're tired and it's cold and feel like they've already eaten enough this week to last until Easter!

Tell you what though, your friend is going to regret that act of spontaneous niceness idiocy when her little darlings are redecorating tomorrow!! Grin

I had a party cancelled on me and if I'm honest I am more than fucked off about it. The reason was different, it was more a case of ""a few people have dropped out so I can't be bothered". I've had a shit 6 months with my father lingering close to death and this is the first time in a few years I haven't been working New Year's Day. I just thought then if a few people have dropped out (as always happens) then why not have the people over who didn't? DH isn't bothered but I am!

A last minute illness I would have been more accepting of,hope you feel better soon.

Go to sleep OP. What's done is done and you are obviously unwell.
Your mood will be low because you are sick so don't bother trying to analyse the situation. There will be another aNYE in 12 months.
Take care

Go to sleep! We had a gazillion people for Christmas after a sickness bug. Told them all about it, said they could stay home if they wanted, disinfected everything. And they all came, and all got the bug. You're doing the right thing!

  1. Everyone has got norovirus at the minute so they'll know its true
  2. Most of them will be relieved.

No one will mind! Most people will be relieved - if you told them this morning then they still had time to pop to the supermarket and stock up on whatever they fancy for dinner (or book a restaurant or plan a takeaway). They can be at home in their pyjamas, not worry about transport, and enjoy relaxing. I wouldn't mind one bit. You can always save the booze for another party when you're feeling better.
