here is my advice Grin

(added) sugar, try to reduce and cut down and have xx days oper week without
coffee, why not just have 2 a day before 12pm?
OLD apps, if its fucking your head, delete them
alcohol, can you majorly cut down instead?
any processed or restaurant food all at once? yes cut this all out

With Alcohol, i can go cold turkey. did it last year ok, but did relax if friends had evening drinking etc.

The hard part for ne is feeling restricted all the time..life is like being in prison as it is (v. low waged) so this is just adding a layer of additional control.

In fact somerimes i wish i were in prison..it would all be organised then!

Technically, bread & yogurt are processed foods (say some sources).

What is on your processed food list?

Yes you can do it all at once, the not eating crap and boozing will all help each other anyway

I go for a 5:2 approach with alcohol, five days off, two days on. You could do the same with coffee, or change to decaf.

I'd allow one take away or restaurant meal a month. I allow myself one bought lunch and breakfast a week when working. In reality, I rarely feel like having it anyway so I don't, or if I'm making four lunches I might as well make five, so I don't buy the lunch out but I am allowed to, which makes it much easier!

Old - if it's keeping you up at night, put a timer on the router? Or there are various phone apps you can get to shut things down at certain times?

I cut out booze and no coffee or tea after 2pm. I went from being a really bad sleeper, sleeping 3or 4 hours-sometimes less- per night to falling asleep almost instantly and getting 8 or 9 hours a night. Literally live changing.

I cut out all processed food a few mi this ago and it's been great. The first few days are hard while you go through withdrawals and cravings but after that I haven't even wanted to eat anything that's not on my list.

I think its too much. I am also cutting down some of these but not all at once, it'd be too hard.

Can you start with no added sugar and halve your daily coffee intake. Drink alcohol only at weekends and yes totally stop the dating apps. Restaurant food, still eat out but only healthy options?

Coffee - giving that up can cause headaches for couple of days - I was told if you have one cup a day you avoid that - so may be best to aim for one cup a day for a while.

I think the trick is to aim high but not give up if you do lapse.

There is a theory that there is only so much will power in a person per day - I think there may be something in this as I know playgroups with a feeder when I was constantly turning down some very nice cakes those were the days much later on I did really struggle with and often lapsed towards the evening when rest of week I was doing fine.

So avoiding temptation for a bit might help as well - so avoid buying processed food and going out to restaurants being around other drinkers until it's a more established routine for you could well help.

Hello all, thanks for the advice!..

i'm going to go for no coffee at home but two cups of crap instant at work.

By processed foods, i sort of mean anything not pre made..but i think I'll include pesto and pasta, and bread and baked beans because i have these in freezer and cupboard and they are. useful quickies..

Aside from that, chickens roasted by me, stews and lentils with veg cooked by me (oh i think i will use timned tomatoes and puree as they are also in cupboard already).

i am going to try making my food shopping raw unprepared veg and meat (maybe not even meat when chickens finished) and fruit. juicing my own fruit too..

I might allow tea at home, as i have that in too
.Smile

I am either hoping to be all healthy and positive. .or dark, moody and resentful. anything but cardboard!

Are OLD apps specific things, or does it just mean apps that are old?

Bloody hell that seems a miserable existence and needlessly puritanical. In fact I think you'd be setting yourself up to fail. 'well I've cracked and had a cup of coffee, I may as well have wine too.'

Why not try cutting out/down on one or two of those things?

I gave up smoking last year and fully expected to have a couple of grand in my account by now with all the "saved" money .... It's vanished 😩 .... I think you'll need a jar or something to actually have something to show for it

It's hard giving it all up at once. I did that voluntarily about 2 years ago to try and improve a health condition I'd recently been diagnosed with and didn't fancy the disease modifying drugs I was offered. Gluten free, lean meat, no sugar, no dairy, no alcohol and a shit load of expensive supplements prescribed by a quack.
I followed this regime for a couple of months. I was a miserable bitch. I ended the regime with a homemade pizza. Best fucking pizza I'd ever eaten. I found just giving up the processed stuff and cutting back on alcohol helped me more than all the powders and potions.
Now I have a condition called Rebound Intercranial Hypertension. I now have to follow a strict diet which includes low sodium, low vitamin a, no caffeine, nothing processed (full of salt or sugar) and no/low sugar...if I don't I get pretty nasty symptoms. Fortunately I can drink wine etc which makes it not so bad.
I'd personally cut down gradually. Going cold turkey with everything puts too much pressure on you.
Cooking everything from scratch is a great start and you'll feel better.
Cutting the coffee down isn't hard.....if you like herbal teas you can still have the comfort of a hot drink.
Good luck

I did similar last year, the whole 30 diet, the idea is to eat protein, healthy fats and vegetables and after a month you can reintroduce each type of food so you can identify what foods trigger skin issues, stomach upset etc.

I was not limiting how much I ate at all, and lost 15 lbs, cured my insomnia and had energy for days.

You won't regret it.

Look at what habits "feed into" one another.

For me wine leads into bad food choices. Knock one on the head, drastically help with the other.

So for example does coffee make you stay up late, mess about on OLD apps? If so deal with the coffee and the rest will follow

I wouldn't give up all restaurant food. A tuna steak would be delicious and not too calorific.

I am just pondering if i would do this if i were rich. The answer's no!
