me! The gravy is always the last thing to be made so everything else is getting cold and there I am begging it not to go lumpy. This way I add a bit of turkey juices and some cranberry sauce and we're good to go. Made mine in November. Also volume. I have 3 Northerns coming for Christmas. They need a pint of gravy each!!

Is it any good? Am off to google as I've not heard of it before. I guess it is a massive amount of faff but delicious end product?

I made mine about a month ago, I started it whilst I was cooking dinner and finished it off whilst chatting in the kitchen after we'd eaten.
It didn't take much effort really and it does taste delicious.

I've made this the last few Christmases and it's gorgeous stuff. Not too faffy either as a lot of it is doing a bit, then leaving it to do its thing for a while. It's just so much easier than buggering about with flour and a whisk and all that nonsense whilst trying to cook veg, finish off sauces, serve/carve etc.

I've made it before and it the most tasteless pile of shite I have ever had the misfortune to taste.

We didn't a couple of years ago and it was awful!

We have made it several times its delicious. Currently got chicken wings in the fridge waiting for us to make it.

We 'did it'...

DH is the cook in our house and his normal gravy is amazing but the make ahead was tasteless.

I did it once and it was a complete waste of time. Like bland chicken stock.

I watched him make it on TV a few years ago. It looked disgusting. And a real faff, like most of his stuff.

I simply make it from the juices of the turkey and the vegetables on the day, a tiny bit of bisto, and a slug of port. Delicious.

Me too. Mine's in the freezer. Much easier than faffing about when trying to cook dinner

I've made it the last few years - I think it's absolutely lovely, and it does make the day easier when you already have the basis of a really nice gravy. I take my gravy insanely seriously, mind you - a roast meal lives or dies by the quality of the gravy.

I must have done something wrong, because I made it & thought it was rubbish.

Prefer the usual gravy I make for a roast (butter, flour wine & jelly in with the stock), or the M&S ready made one. Both much quicker & cheaper to make.

dh is really keen to make it - I think it will be bland Xmas Sad I dont want it.

hussherbye · 22/12/2016 21:48

I have to say it doesn't taste amazing once made- it benefits from sitting in the fridge a bit, then once mixed with fresh turkey juices its magic

PlumsGalore · 22/12/2016 21:51

I do it every year, I do leave out the star anise now though as it adds a horrid aftertaste. It saves so much time on the day and tastes the best.

JustSpeakSense · 22/12/2016 21:53

I did that one year, it was such a faff, and really not worth the effort. I now buy M&S ready made posh turkey gravy, its Delicious.

I found it bland and watery? Can't have done it right hmm. I like turkey juices, rosemary, some granules. Always nice

I usually make onion gravy and freeze it, then on the day add wine, meat juices whatever. I've never tried Jamie's, but I do find making the gravy ahead of time is great as I run out of rings on the hob otherwise.
