AIBU?

To be effing angry?

This may seem really petty but I'm so annoyed. Just went to get my daughter a drink, put my phone on the side, opened cupboard and OH hadn't put a cup in properly, fell out and smashed my phone. I'm so angry! My thugs always seem to get broken by other people's carelessness and quite frankly I don't have £130 to get it repaired. I guess I just need a rant right now Angry

YANBU to be angry, but these things happen. No phone insurance?

Yep, I'd be angry too.

Any house insurance?

That would piss me right off!

I broke DH's wing mirror the other week - pure carelessness on my behalf. I was so cross with myself [anger]! I paid for the repair because it was my fault.

No, no insurance because I'm clearly a numpty. I know it's only a material thing but I'm not well at the minute and keeping in touch with people is the only thing keeping me sane. So bloody close to Christmas as well, just my luck Angry hopefully the Apple Store will take pity on me somehow haha

Is the screen cracked? You can get it fixed by non-Apple places - my DH had his done by a place in town called Phone Doctors or similar and it was much cheaper and looks/works fine.

Afaik you can buy replacement screens and the little tiny tool kits to replace them yourself for much less than £130.

Would it be covered under house insurance? (although might not be worth it depending on excess, I suppose).

Annoyed, yes. But accidents happen so let it go.

too late for the phone, but tbh i'd get some insurance sorted out asap, i know it's too easy to say 'can't afford it' 'what's the point, i'll never need it ' but you never know and it is important because you never know.

If you can't afford to get it fixed you could take the SIM card or and put it in a cheap replacement phone, so you can at least stay in touch with people.

Oh I definitely will get insurance! I've been meaning to for ages so if nothing else it's giving me a kick up the bum to do that! It's a nano sim, I'm not sure if there's a phone cheaper than that which takes a sim of that size. It'll just have to wait til the end of the month. And don't worry, I'm not holding a grudge, just v. annoyed (although OH has offered to fix it now, but our money is together so that's kind of irrelevant lol)

I've had a look at other places too but all quoting nearly the same as Apple so may as well go theee and keep the warrantee, my fault for having an expensive phone

Most sims can split into 3 different sizes, so you just get a new one (under a quid from loads of shops) or a replacement from your mobile company.
I actually cut up a standard sim so it would fit around a nano one once, worked for months 🙂

You can get a new sim to fit the size of any less expensive phone you manage to get with your own number. Just contact your phone provider.

When I say get a new one I mean switch the nano section of the sim for yours, not use a new sim altogether 🙂

I've fixed the screen on an iPhone 5 and a 5c myself. Just got the part and it came with a little tool kit.
Really easy to do following a web tutorial.

DD'S iphone 6 Screen was done for £60 at our local Samsung shop last weekend. Guaranteed repair too.

I've not renewed my insurance this time because it doesn't really add up for me. A screen costs £60 yet the cheapest excess on my policy was £75 plus £80 to cover (6s). Id rather stick a few quid to one side each month now.

Sorry OP, that's shit.

I know you have said you will go to apple but just to add my experience in case you change your mind.. I had my iPhone screen fixed by someone not connected to Apple and my phone broke a couple of months later. I then took it to the Apple shop and they wouldn't touch it to fix it as it had non-genuine Apple parts.

I didn't tell them I had had it fixed by someone else but they can obviously tell.

I had to pay about £270 to end my contract early and get a new contract!

If it's less than 12 months old Apple might just replace it for you, especially if you give them a bit of a sob story.
They once replaced a brand new ipod touch for me as I fell on the ice and smashed it.

Post on Facebook and ask "Has anyone got a spare phone please that I can borrow whilst mine's repaired?" people will offer them...you'd be amazed how many people have perfectly good iphones sitting in drawers. I've seent two friends do this and both got about 6 offers.

Check you don't already have cover through your bank account. If you pay a fee for your account phone insurance is usually a benefit you get.
