I have never been one to bow to the terrorists and change my plans, was in London the day after 7/7 but we have booked to go to winter wonderland with the kids this Friday and since the horrible events in Berlin I am feeling very nervous about it and wonder if I am being irresponsible to be taking the kids to London at such a high threat time. AIBU?

YANBU to be nervous, it's understandable. Security at Winter Wonderland is pretty good, though, and I imagine they've stepped it up a bit more since Berlin. I live in London and won't stop taking my DD to events/where there are crowds but I will admit to feeling a bit nervous, too...

Have you been to winter wonderland? I went 2 Years ago...it wasnt that great. I wouldnt not go to an event thst i wanted to attend because of berlin or any terrorism. i live in the london area and rarely think about it. But Winter wonderland???? what do others think?

Yabu...do you not ever travel in a car? Because statistically that's far more dangerous.

Then they win. It's a weigh up between a risk now and the risk of the future for your children, grandchildren etc. But it's not an easy call to make.

YWNB irresponsible to take your kids into London, though!

I wouldn't go as London is very very busy.
I know someone in govt and it isn't just London that is at major threat level. It is some local cities which really surprised me

I'm here. I live here. Agree with others.

My DP wants to take my DS(4) to Covent Garden tomorrow [we lI've a few tube stops away so are based pretty centrally] and I do feel a bit of trepidation if I'm honest.

Sorry but this attitude utterly fucks me off. What do you think the millions of people who live in London do?

What curiousowl said.

Seriously, go to a busy football ground at half-time and tear up £20 notes. You'll replicate xmas in London perfectly.

You are being silly.

Understandably silly, but still silly.

YABU. You could die at any time at any point. And everything is safer just after an attack because they step up security. I've lived in London for 30 years and have managed not to die in a terrorist attack so far. I wouldn't go to winter wonderland two days before Christmas though... Hellishly busy.

You're being very unreasonable - 80% of London will be trying to leave on Friday because of Christmas so you'll be making our travel congestion worse.

But worrying about terrorism is understandable but a bit daft. We have spectacular security in London. There's police all over the place, many with machine guns.

I know it's worrying but it is fine here, I promise.

But please still don't come because it'll be a NIGHTMARE on the trains in Friday.

I've just had to go through London on 2 trains a d 2 tubes at rush hour to get home for Christmas. It did cross my mind but I refuse to be scared of doing things because some terrorists tell me I should be. I wont give them the power.

DP and I are going on Friday because we're mad clearly

I'm in 2 minds now not because I'm scared of a terror threat but because the bag check queues are taking up to an hour to get in. One hour Hmm
I like winter wonderland but not enough to queue up for a sodding hour

Yanbu. I have the same thoughts. I'm also a Londoner but that doesn't mean I would go to such a busy and famous place now.

There were five arrests in the U.K. and the plans to hit Christmas Markets in the U.K. we're completely foiled.

I'd be wary outside of the UK, but we are doing really well at foiling Terrorist plans/movement/communications.

YABU. Agree though that winter wonderland isn't great. We hit up a lot of the touristy hot spots yesterday and there was a nice level of security around. Nowhere near as much as they had in Canterbury or Birmingham when we passed through there. There were armed police with rifles which always gives me the feeling that they're clearly expecting something to happen stepping up security so much like that.
