AIBU?

AIBU to ask what is with the new trend of just deleting entire threads for minimal reasons?

Ok, I know MNHQ, its your bar and all that, but I have noticed lately that rather than just issuing a warning to return threads back to track, you just delete them altogether. Many were heavily invested in a previous thread and one person came along, started namecalling and the entire thread dissapeared! Why? A gentle reminder would have sufficed I am sure?

Its not that I have an issue with one thread being vapourised here, its the current pattern of threads just going poof for tiny reasons. It makes it hard to invest my time here, because whats the point ultimately if the thread just dissapears?

Am I being unreasonable? Or is anyone else noticing a pattern?

Not trying to start a TAAT, just feeling a little frustrated really.

At the end of the day it's best not to get "heavily invested" in any threads on here. It's the internet...this site is massive now. Loads of trolls about etc....just read the fun ones and if threads which are seeking support end up deleted, that's life.

Maybe Temporary, I suspect so, it just seems a bit dull to get into a thread and have it go poof without any warning.

Honestly, not trying to cause trouble, I just genuinely wonder why its happening like this so much lately, it hasnt always been this bad imho...

I was totally invested in the "dumping someone over a curry" thread when it got zapped due to it being a possible PBP - so what though? It was harmless enough.

Identifying through IP adreess isn't really that reliable.

Thats the thing moreslack is has been a lot of the funny and harmless ones lately, thats what is confusing me. A simple warning would get most of threads back on track imho.

More ... - What is PBP??
Yanbu I agree, when I was feeling crap last week I read something hilarious on here, it was prob made up but still
Sometimes it depends on the subject I rarely report anything but on the odd occasion It did because it was a thread of racist remarks it was considered appropriate apparently so fuck knows how deleting threads is decided,

Ive noticed a trend towards more deleted threads too.

Totally agree that things like racist remarks and intolerance should go castle, you were right to report.

Threads like the last one I was one however, basically, someone namecalled, we all went WTF? For a bit and it derailed for about 1-2 pages. It got deleted. Why on earth MN couldnt have just reminded us all to get back on track and give us the chance to self moderate I really dont get. It wasnt as if they had had to police the entire thread of 30 something pages up untul that point or anything. Confused

Its getting ridiculous lynn why even bother putting the effort in to post, if they just dissapear without warning or for daft reasons? It sucks all the fun out of the site tbh.

Some of the longer threads get derailed though. If people stuck to the topic rather than insulting each other, threads might last a bit longer .

Yeah, fair point olivia but the last thread I was on was 35 pages, but only the last 2 derailed due to namecalling, we responded in kind and it might not have been the best response in fairness, but, If MNHQ had just reminded us to return to track after the behaviour of one individual being goady, It would have easily returned to the point of the thread IYSWIM.

I don't think you were in the wrong on that thread Wookie as that other poster was very rude and insulting.

I am on a few forums and have never seen a whole thread being deleted, locked down yes but deleting is like removing history. As someone mentioned maybe mumsnet has gotten really huge and are concerned about image of church of mumsnet being defined by bickering Eudia and Syntyche!

I had a thread earlier in the week that had some really great conversation and opinion. It wasn't a TAAT, but some posters started talking about another thread, so MN deleted the entire thread summarily. It was disappointing to lose what had been a fascinating look into how others felt about posting on Mumsnet.

I have noticed a trend of posters who clearly don't like being told 'yabu' getting threads deleted because there is apparently too much personal information and could out them.

Just seems like a tactic to get it deleted when yiu don't like people agreeing with us.

Yes, it's so annoying when you get into a thread and then return later only to find it's disappeared. You don't see it on other forums. Does MN not have the capability to lock these threads instead?

Also agree with the above. I keep seeing people ask for their thread to be deleted just because they aren't getting the responses they want (I'm not talking personal abuse, just a wall of 'YABU' type responses). Because threads are deleted so liberally people think they can get theirs deleted for stupid reasons.

I can't quite believe that people care and think that (I can't bear to write the acronym) the mumsnet people are a bunch of right on big sister head girl types. It's a bit sad to be be that invested in a business that is run for profit unless it's in shares.
